Car needed in Barcelona?

Is there enough to do in Barcelona without having to get a car? Is local transportation okay-and how does it work. Does anyone know if any good but cheap apartments in B?(for 6 people)
Oh, husband of mine in extememly keen (read desperate) to go to a football game at the Nou Camp. Is this a safe venu for children?
How do you get tickets?
Thanks.

We found Barcelona easy to navigate without a car. We took the Bus Turistic and used the Metro.

Subway and bus are both very easy in barca - we were there for 5 days and never had a problem. we did see a futbol match at the stadium - took public transportation out and bought tickets the morning of the match. Very safe in my opinion. I'd check on vrbo.com for barca apartments for rent.

We found the metro to be highly efficient, cheap, and super-easy to figure out...even with the language barrier. We took it EVERYWHERE...it made me wish we had one at home.
