car lease comparison advice

Trying to decide between auto europe and italy by car for lease while in Italy(will be leasing for a month) Are there any hidden fees with italy by car? What has been your experience with either company. Thanks

We used Renault autolease program and were very happy with it (2X). The only problem we had was that one of our four pick up and return locations was very inconvenient to reach (Munich) Other than that- and our own miscalculation of the size of a trunk, we have no complaints.

Thank you. you confirmed my feelings about autoeurope. Italy-by-car is about $500 cheaper but was concerned about what their reputation might be.

Umm Dee,

gb mentioned Renault Autolease, not AutoEurope or Italy by Car ...

Are you sure that Italy by Car (www.italybycar.it) even offers leases? They got a very good review for their "normal" rental service on this site about a week ago.

You are right Andre! I just looked quickly at the Renault portion of what gb was saying as Reault is what/whom I would be leasing from with auto europe.
Italy by car does not offer a lease program however their long term rental was what is cheaper. Just concered that there are no other fees that are not mentioned. I will look for that review. Thanks

Dee,

This is the thread I refered to:

Probably Italy by Car's "super" coverage will provide you with equivalent protection to the Auto Europe lease. BTW, the only lease program I can find on their site is with Peugeot, not Renault.

Second time we've done the lease buy-back deal. Had a Peugot which was fine. Pick up and delivery in Milan.

Europe by Car

Peugot 4 door w/AC
50 days $1,649 with insurance

We booked directly through RenaultUSA in New York for the lease car, not through an intermediary. I also noticed at our pick up place that there were some Americans picking up a lease BMW. I don't have details about it though.
Also, another problem we found inadvertly with a lease versus a rental car is that you can not make any last minute changes to upgrade. A week before our trip, I discovered the the trunk to be smaller than I thought, and could not make any changes.( But that was my fault, not the lease program's fault.)

There are several posts on leasing with comments on gas and price comparisons. If you do a search, they might be helpful.
Also www.ideamerge.com leases renault, seem to be same price as renault USA but they have better pictures of the vehicles and the trunk space if that is a concern.
We are planning to use Renault USA this fall, their price could not be beat, even with leasing from other plans.

Thanks to all. Lots of good info. Andre I read the thread on Italy by car. Very positive. I may get in touch with auto europe just to see if they will match the price. gb checked Renault USa and their price was the very same as Italy by car.

Just a thought. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples. We have leased a couple times from Auto France, and one great benefit is that there is total insurance coverage and zero deductible. That was sure great when our last lease got a scrape on the ferry to Dubrovnik, and we backed into a "hidden" concrete barrier also in Dubrovnik and put a good dent in the rear fender. No hassle and no charge. While AutoFrance does impose a pretty hefty drop off or pick up fee for Rome or other Italian cities, the fee for either in Milan is only $60. Or if you can pick up or drop off in Nice, no charge at all.
