car insurance italy
Hi All
Apparently american express doesn't cover car insurance in italy . I am heading to Sicily next week--use a Auto Europa rental for 8 days. Recommendations on the insurance company and type I should get? Should I go bare bones or ? best,Jseneca |
It is a question of risk taking versus tranquility.
If you don't want to feel stressed in the eevent that you have a crash, take the insurance with no CDW, if not don't. |
Car insurance is mandatory in Italy. You can't leave the rental office without it. If you want to supplement it, that's your choice.

Well is not insurance that is required to drive in Italy required to come with the car rental price and that CDW - insurance on the car itself is optional and that's what many credit cards cover.
But if not and you do not take out CDW I understand you must post a huge deposit with your c card and then your card could be maxed out? |
We love Kemwell and always get their zero deductible plans... they just aren't much more expensive than the others, in our experience. I always call them to get the best rates and most information.

You can get a Travelex Basic policy (just in the name of the driver), choose $0 cancellation protection, and choose their $49 transportation add-on which includes Primary car insurance.

So I take it i would need medical. personal liability and injury insurance via autoeurope. They said 93 euros per week. Sounds about right? SO this is a requirement to rent or optional. If the latter I should probably get it since drivers are aggressive in sicily?
My Amex covers 75k physical damage for theft/collsion. Travelex does not offer to americanos. |
