Car Hire in Europe
I shall be hiring a car in Europe next year and have searched the internet for vehicles.
Has anyone had any experience, either good or bad, with the following companies :- novacarhire.com rentalcars.com cartrawler.com Your comments/responses would be greatly appreciated |
No. I always use AutoEurope.
|
I'm with StCirq. We've used AE at least 90% of the time. The other option is to go directly with Europcar.

Thanks for your feedback.
I have used AutoEurope a couple of times in the past but this time the deal they are offering is ordinary so I am looking around. I was hoping someone may have a comment one way or the other re the above mentioned car hire websites. I may have to take a chance and be the guinea pig. Cheers M_W_N_N |
I also always use Auto Europe. If you find a better rate and call them they usually match it.
|
I've used http://www.economycarrentals.com/ in Sicily, Turkey and Poland with no problems. As long as the car is returned to the same location, the price was considerably lower than Autoeurope's. But Autoeurope/Kemwel offered better deals in France, perhaps because I could carry the CDW on my visa card.

They do say they will match a lower price you may find elsewhere... |
www.kemwel.com
Compare to AE and pick the better |

Thankyou to all for your feedback
Before I first posted I went back to AutoEurope to see if they could match other offers but with no success hence the reason for my post. While I really like AutoEurope (they have served me well in the past) they come very far short of rates offered by the internet companies mentioned in my original post. To Michael with thanks :- I have looked at economycarrentals and they also offer a deal that is enticing - I have added them to my list. I guess I may be the proverbial guinea pig. Cheers and thanks MWNN |
Man_With_No_Name,
I believe that Australian residents can have the CDW carried on their visa card. I doubt that anyone can beat Autoeurope/Kemwel's basic rate, particularly if one wishes to have a one-way rental. |
Be careful that the car hire you get is with AutoEurope and NOT the similarly-named Auto Europa, aka Sicily by Car, which is the company Nova Car Hire uses in Italy. Thinking it sounded like a good deal, we hired a car through Nova Car Hire/Auto Europa ex Rome Airport in May 2013. The car we were allocated was already damaged and dirty but the damage was noted on the rental agreement so we thought all would be fine. We returned the car in exactly the same state to central Rome a week later, the car was inspected and OKed. A few weeks later we arrived home to find that Auto Europa had fraudulently altered the check-in document AFTER it had been signed and had taken 600 euros from our credit card. Don't ever hire in Italy through Nova Car Hire or Auto Europa, especially if you are non-EU, as we seem to be a common target for this kind of theft, if you trawl through lots of online reviews. I wish we had before we hired through Nova.

Hi M,
I go in this order www.kemwel.com www.autoeurope.com www.novacarhire.com The first two will always match the deal from Nova. ((I)) |
I would think that if you're comparing prices with the same specifics, that Auto Europe would match the price. Are you sure that the deductibles are the same when you're comparing?
I use Kemwel for Italy and Auto Europe for France. Kemwel seems to always have a better price in Italy for no deductible rentals. |
Sixt for me. Immer.

I have. And did you see my reply?

And did you see my reply?
Which assumes that the credit card company will take your word for it. I have a issue about being double charged on the RATP ticket distributors, and while my CC company returned the second charge, this is only finalized after verification with RATP. Chances are that I will lose this one, as might the OP unless he has photographs to show in what condition the car was returned. |
I guess it's a good thing cell phones these days have cameras.
