Picking up car at Bordeaux airport staying around St Emilion and then driving south to Orx and then east to midi pyrenees. To avoid extra charges we will drop car off in France before train to Bilbao. Can anyone tell me if there are extra charges if we drive over border into Spain from France, even if we drop it off in France? Many thanks

No, you are free to drive it over the border with no extra charges. No one will have any idea that you are even doing that.

If you rent from one of the major rental car companies/brokers, then there should be no additional charge crossing into Spain from France for a visit.

Make sure you tell the company though so they can give you the Green Card to show you are insured for international travel.

And be sure you are familiar with the driving requirements in Spain (like safety vest and extra prescription glasses if you wear them) - I believe they are somewhat different from the French requirements.
