Car drop-off in Orvieto
According to Auto Europe the drop-off location for Orvieto is in the "city centre." Is it difficult to maneuver in Orvieto by car? How does one approach the town? It's not clear on the map.

If AutoEurope is using Avis, the dropoff is very simple. It's by the train station (couple of blocks), at the base of the hill. Just follow the signs to the train station. If you run into problems, park at the train station and find it by foot and then drive to it. (Shouldn't be necessary.)

There are 2 towns. The old town is on the hill, the new town is at the base of the hill and is the commercial part.
Marija is correct--find the station and then the Avis office--very easy. |
I was in Orvieto last week. The first day we drove up to the old town and parked near the duomo in a public lot--it was fairly easy. Next day, we dropped off the car in the lower town. We got a little lost, but then found the train station signs to follow and got there okay. After turning in the car we went back to old town by taking a funicular (sp?)up

We turned in an AutoEurope rental thru Avis in Orvieto. The office is very close to the train station at the base of the hill. After you turn in your car, you can easily walk to the train station where the funiculare goes up to the old town. When you get off the funiculare there are buses (free) to take you to the piazza at the duomo, or you can walk if you don't have much luggage.

Thanks everyone.

Another question - we plan to drop the car, then "do" Orvieto and take the train to Rome. Will the car rental agency store our luggage for a few hours, do you think?
|
Pius - Not sure if the agency will offer this, - but there is a left luggage facility at the ticket office at Orvieto Station.
Hope this helps ... Steve |
The train station area is very busy so you can consider leaving your out of sight luggage in the car while you tour Orvieto and then returning the car.
