Car drop

We are looking to drop off our rental car close to Rome, for our driver to pick us up
and take us to our hotel.
We will be coming from either Perugia or Orvieto.
Anything within a 100km would do.
Thank you for your thoughts

You will be used to driving in Italy by the time you head to Rome. I would drop off my car at the closest rental location to your hotel in Rome and take a cab from there.

Why not drop in Orvieto and train into Rome?

janisj Apr 2nd, 2015 05:36 PM

I don't understand what you want a driver to take you up to 100km? Either of the above two suggestions would make more sense IMO.

Dukey1 Apr 2nd, 2015 05:50 PM

100KM is "close?"

fmpden Apr 2nd, 2015 05:50 PM

It is fairly easy to get to Termini via direct roads. Drop it at the railroad station and take local transit or taxi from there.

The two strategies mentioned above to drop off the car in Orvieto or Stazione Termini in Roma are cogent plans. The train ride from Orvieto to Roma is 75 minutes and it's direct. Personally, I would drop off in Roma at Termini and then take a cab to the hotel. Driving in Roma is not too different that driving in any large American city.

Buon viaggio,

Thanks for all the help.
Bob, I had the same idea however Kemwel and Autoeurope doesn't
work for a drop in Orvieto for some reason.
On top of that It keeps giving me a stick shift when I want an automatic.

KTtravel Apr 3rd, 2015 08:32 AM

pebbles99, have you called and spoken with Kemwel and Autoeurope reps directly or are you just trying their online reservation systems? I have had better luck with phoning them if the online system isn't showing what I want. Also, Kemwel recently was able to help me with a rental that Autoeurope says they couldn't provide. I would try both.

fmpden Apr 3rd, 2015 09:49 AM

You may want an automatic but it may not be available. The vast majority of the smaller car, midsize down, will be manual. Probability of an auto in luxury cars is much better. I have yet to rent an auto in Europe.

bobthenavigator Apr 3rd, 2015 10:00 AM

Yes, call them direct. The Hertz outlet is very near the train station, and automatic cars may be limited but are available---look for the Mercedes A car.

pebbles99 Apr 3rd, 2015 10:36 AM

Thanks again, to the phone I will go.
Sorry, should mentioned I am picking the car up in Civitavecchia
KTtravel will call both.
Bob, yes Mercedes A or Audi 3.

vincenzo32951 Apr 3rd, 2015 12:29 PM

BTW, if you do drive into Rome, I've found it's a lot easier on a Saturday. Of course, that may not fit your plans.

pebbles99 Apr 3rd, 2015 02:29 PM

Vincenzo it so happens we will be travelling on a saturday, food for thought.
Bob neither autoeurope or kemwel have drops in Orvieto.
Would have to drop in Viterbo.
Over the years the two above mentioned companies have better pricing then say Hertz, strange.

greg Apr 3rd, 2015 03:40 PM

Whether you can drop off in Orvieto depends on the actual operator. Autoeurope has no drop anywhere for that matter. If you selected a Hertz cars via Autoeurope, you can drop off in Orvieto during office hours while not if you selected Europcar or Avis because they are the only ones with the type of car you are looking for.

bobthenavigator Apr 3rd, 2015 05:21 PM

Of course they do---they are brokers for Hertz. I have had many clients drop there. Did you talk to them?

pebbles99 Apr 4th, 2015 10:30 AM

Bob, yes i talked to them.
Will try again, will mention Hertz.
Love your idea of drop in Orvieto and train to Rome.
Thanks to everyone

bobthenavigator Apr 4th, 2015 12:33 PM

I hope this copies---I ran a scenario of picking up at Florence airport and dropping in Orvieto. It gave me a Fiat 5000

bobthenavigator Apr 4th, 2015 12:36 PM

Sorry---hit by mistake----

Fiat 5000 for both manual and auto and drop in Orvieto.

Hmmm--it is not pasting, but IT did run and looked good from Kemwel---try that.
