Capua General Info

I plan on taking a daytrip from Rome to Capua. Was planning on stopping there last year but the travel gods were against me (train strike, head cold, sprained ankle:).
My main interests are the Amphitheater and it's museum, the location of the slave barracks where the Spartacus Revolt started, info on visiting the Mitreo/Mithraeum (my guidebook says you must book the tour at the Amphitheater?).
I assume I can get a detailed guidebook at the amphitheater?, audioguide?, local guides?
I will be taking an ES train to Caserta and then a local "R" train to S.M. Capua Vetere (11min). I'll be traveling mid-week next month. TIA Regards, Walter

Well last year I didn't make it to Capua again :), Scala Reale had a couple of free tours on different days that I took instead.
But I will be in Naples in March and it's only ~50min away so hopefully the 3rd time will be the charm :).
So if anyone has any info about this daytrip I'd be interested.
Thanks...Regards, Walter

Walter,
I really hope you get there this year!
I have no info but i certainly wish I had heard about this before our 2001 trip, as it sounds so interesting!
Please post about it WHEN you get there this time!

we drove through Capua a few yrs ago on our way to and fro Caserta.
and on our way back we saw a sight which really tickled the children.
It was "rush hour" and there was a traffic jam, which we saw was caused by a flock of at least 30-40 sheep being herded right down the main road! by two elderly men, they turned off the main road and off to where ever .
No one honked at them though.
As we live in Vermont, we have had delays similar to this on our roads, but they are always the back roads , not in our cities.
It was great :)
