Capris/Shorts in Ireland

Leaving Monday..packed jeans and long pants..is it silly to throw in a pair of capris or shorts? We have been told it' quite chilly there (and I did get the lightweight raingear).

Yes. Lightweight long pants instead.

A sampling of yesterday's temperatures were in the range from about 17 degrees celsius for a high to about 9 degrees celsius for a low. This translates to about 64 degrees farenheit for a high and approx 50 degrees farenheit for a low.

That said, if you are comfortable wearing capris at those temperatures then I would say you should bring a pair.

I visited towards the later part of June last year and it was wet and cool. I don't remember what the exact temps were. That said, I wore capris exclusively and was generally comfortable.

Capris. No shorts.

A crop pant of some sort would be OK - but not if they are a light summer weight fabric.

Shorts will just stay in your suitcase.

I suggest you leave the capris at home and use that space for a long sleeve tshirt and a wool cardigan or similar. Have a great trip.

that is for sure - a jumper (sweater) will be more useful than capris or shorts. But a pair of clam digger-type pants in a khaki or denim-like material would work for days when it gets a teensy bit warm.

I hate to be over dressed myself, even if you have only a hint of warmer weather, I personally would pack 1 pair of either lightweight capris or long walking shorts. If you don't use them, fine, better that than being stuck in jeans if the weather turns nice (just my opinion).

The weather is often "nice" - in fact, beautiful. Just not hot enough for shorts.

I'm never "stuck in jeans" since I'd never take more than one pair - otherwise it is casual slacks in various fabrics. Jeans are too hot if it is warm, not warm enough if it is really cold, and take FOREVER to dry if they get wet.

Just wanted to clarify - when I used the term capri to note what I wore last June, I was talking about pants made out of a cotton twill fabric that come down to about mid-calf. It seems from some of the responses that some people here might be thinking of a shorter style pant when referring to capris.
