capri to rome?
Hi-my husband and I will be heading to the Amalfi coast in May, and we're planning to spend two nights in Capri. We must get from Capri back to Rome to catch a flight at 4pm. Does anyone have any thoughts if this is possible in one day (boat to Naples and then train to Rome???) Thanks for any feedback.

I think that the quickest way would be to take the 20 minute hydrofoil ride from Capri to the Mergellina section of Naples (leaves at 8:10 AM on workdays). The dock is about 500 yards from the Mergellina station. Then less than a 2 hour train ride to Rome termini (10:09 AM departure) and then take the 32 minute train ride to the airport (generally 21 and 51 minutes after each hour). You can check your bags at the Rome station and have a nice lunch in Rome if you like. Make sure that you double check hydrofoil and train schedules once you are in Italy.

thanks so much Bob for the great info!

joanna

Why not fly from Naples airport, it surely is not necessary to fly from Rome?

I took the ferry from Mergellina to Capri and it was a 45 minute ride not 20 minutes. Other than that, the hydrofoil and train advice were good!

Celeste is right. The hydrofoil trip is longer than 20 minutes. See this web site for the hydrofoil schedule: "http://www.thenet.it/snav/aliscafi/gnapoli2.htm"

It is hard to take, Fred, when you have to be in Rome by Sunday a.m.
