Capri to Positano-stop in Sorrento? Hire driver to Positano?
We are staying 2 nights in Capri and 3 nights in Positano. Would like to take a boat to Sorrento and walk around a while before going to Positano. What do we do with our luggage? Should we hire a driver to Positano? Any recommendations and how much is it and how long of a drive? or should we take a bus. Alternative is to ferry directly to Positano.

There are a few ways to do this then. You can take a ferry to Sorrento then you can hire a driver who will hold your luggage while you look around Sorrento and then take you over to Positano. It is the famous Amalfi drive and will take under an hour, you can negotiate the price. You are going to Capri from Positano?

Sorrento is a very pleasant town but besides the busy main shopping dragged, wall-wall restos, souvenir shops, fashion shops, etc. there is very little to see here. A pleasant well-equipped base but i wouldn't detour here personally - that's of course just my opinion. the town doesn't even offer views over the coast from the center.

We just got back from Italy, including Positano. Highly recommend a driver. We used Francesco Marrapese. He was very knowledgeable and was the best choice we had made. He will drive you all over the coast, including pick-up in Naples. He is a reasonable price as he is just starting his own business. You can look on his website for info. Google his name and you will most likely find it. You can go down to the beach in Positano to get a ferry to Capri. I don't think you need reservations too far ahead.

I am also freshly back from this neck of the woods. I second Ira's suggestion of putting your luggage into your hotel room in Positano or Capri and then travelling to Sorrento.
I was on the island of Ischia for two weeks. I took a ferry to Capri from Ischia on Monday, and then another ferry from Capri to Positano Wednesday. I didn't buy my tickets more than a few hours in advance and had no trouble. I took the SITA bus from Positano (Praiano) to Amalfi, and then up to Ravello.
Incidentally, after having good experiences with it elsewhere on the trip (Ischia, Procida and Capri) the bus service between Amalfi and Ravello was extrenely disappointing. After waiting nearly an hour at midday last Wednesday for a bus from Amalfi to Ravello (only a few miles) I then waited more than an hour in Ravello for a bus back down to Amalfi. In a period where four buses should have come and gone, only one arrived.
Everyone was frustrated, and not everyone waiting made it onto the bus. In retrospect, I would have hired a taxi rather than waste precious time waiting for a bus.

Francesco's website is www.francescomarrapese.com. He has a beautiful website. Just saw it today. Take the time to click on the photos, they are fabulous.
rbnwdln, I was interested to see you hired Francesco and were so pleased that you did. From his posts here on Fodor's and his website I thought he would be a very good choice. Thanks for sharing.
