Capri question: do I need to prebook hydrofoil/ferry?

Hello - we land at Naples airport at 3pm. I was thinking of not prebooking a ticket to Capri. We don't mind getting a ferry. Do you think I should prebook or can we just wing it? We are staying 4 nights on Capri.

thank you!

When I was there (August 2003) the problem about not prebooking was a queue (or something closer to a fight) for tickets that cost me almost 45 min to get through. The high speed ferries are very frequent though.

Thank you, altamiro, maybe I will prebook in that case. Does anyone else think I would need to prebook the ferry?

There are several operators and they will never all be fully booked. The busiest services are those from Napoli in the morning and from Capri in the late afternoon, used by day trippers.
Caremar (www.caremar.it) has a car ferry at 1840 which will be a ship capable of carry 1000 passengers. Even if the others are full for some reason, you will be able to get to Capri on that one.

then i assume the unstated that ferries can be pre-booked. Online? How?

thanks

Thanks Geoff, really helpful. I think I will not pre-book and just get on the first one I can. I rather like the idea of the ferry. It will be our first time to AC and seeing Vesuvius!
