Capri, Pompeii, Amalfi in 3 days with Naples as base...
Hello all
I have 3 days in Naples in Mid sept. I plan to utilise them as under : Day 1: Leave Rome early, arrive Naples by 0830h. Drop luggage at hostel. Catch ferry for Capri Island at 1000h. (My hostel is walking distance from Beverello). Spend the remaining day at Capri Island and visit Blue Grotto too. Catch ferry back at 1900h. Day 2: Early morning circumvesuvian train Naples-Sorrento. Hire a scooter/move by bus Sorrento-Positano-Amalfi and back. Catch return train at 1900h. Day 3 : Early circumvesuvian to Pompeii Scavi. Visit Pompeii, if time permits Vesuvius. Head back to Naples. I have a flight in evening from Naples airport at 1915h. I know my planning is ambitious with an aim to see it all. Few questions: - Is it feasible and worth it ? - Hows the public transportation as my entire planning is based around it ?? Looking forward to practical tips from people who've been in the area. |
I think you can do this! It is not too much, only visit pompeii and the Vesuvius is difficult, this is too much in one day!
There is a hop on drop off bus in the amalfitan coast that can be interesting for you http://www.sorrento.city-sightseeing.../percorsi.html I would not hire a scooter, it is not easy to drive along the coast and Naeples, it depends on your experience as a scooter driver! |
It's too bad you're spending all your time in Naples out of Naples. I don't see the point staying there. You should stay in Sorrento which would make a better dormitory for your plans as it is closer to the Amalfi Coast.

I think you should stay in Sorrento too.
I was in Sorrento last week, & it was my first time. I was really surprised as to how far Sorrento actually is from Naples. It is about a one hour train trip. It is great to go to Capri, but please be aware that you will not be able to see or go into the blue grotto if the weather is not favorable. So this is why staying is Sorrento is a better idea. You can be flexible. You can get up in the morning, & if the weather is good (no wind), then go to Capri, otherwise do either amalfi or pompeii. The local train from Naples to Sorrento is pretty good. |
Thanks @rosanna75 @Blueeyedcod @millie2112
Actually thinking now Sorrento definitely would have been a better base. But unfortunately my accommodation is done and it's non refundable. Also 3 days is all I could manage. Thanks for your suggestions. I think I'll go ahead with the plan with the flexibility of skipping Capri maybe. |
Traveling to Capri by ferry is so easy from Naples. Visit Giardini di Augusto and the Punta Tragara Viewpoint, near the main village but away from the large crowds. Both are accessed on pedestrian only paths.
