Capri Pants in Rome
I know that the Vatican has a dress code but am not sure how strict they are. My wife wants to wear capri pants; not short, but causual and comfortable. Will these be allowed in to churches in Rome, Venice and Florence?

The knees need to be covered - so Capri pants should be fine.

She should be fine, it's only short shorts they seemed to be strict about. You also have to have your shoulders covered, no singlet tops. A scarf to throw over your shoulders is a good idea if it's hot and you have a strappy top on.

Capri pants will be fine for your wife, but for you, long pants are required at the Vatican and strongly reccommended, if not required in alot of churches. You will get dirty looks if you attempt to wear shorts.

I've always worn capri's to St. Peter's and my husband and son have worn nice men's walking shorts. Almost every male had them on as well. We received no looks.

The last time I was at St. Peter's, the holy year, they were very strict about dress code. Capri's should be fine, but if you wear a skirt, don't wear a short one. I think the advice about covering the knees is probably right on.

If you're a female, have a sarong with you. They're lightweight and easy to put on and off. You can use a scarf to cover your shoulders if you're wearing a singlet.
