Capri or Sardinia

My partner and I will be traveling through Europe next summer and will be traveling to Greece, Portugal and Spain (Mallorca). Curious if we should go to Capri or to Sardinia. We love the beach and we love the sun. Curious which place offers the most in terms of scenery, food and night life as well as incredible beaches?

One's a tiny little island, one's the size of a small country.

How much time will you have? I spent 10 days in Sardinia last August and could have easily spent 3 weeks. Here's my trip report:

I never think of Capri as a place for the beach. I know there are some, but the only "beach" I saw was pretty rocky and not very attractive. I think of Capri as a romantic or idyllic sort of getaway for a couple nights where moonlight strolls, high style hotels and restaurants, and beautiful vistas are the draw.

Sardinia has some wonderful beaches, but after coming from Mallorca, I'm not sure I get the point of traveling to Sardinia for the beach. Sardinia, like AP6380 says could take weeks to see and the only real way to see it involves a car and traveling about. There is an area of Sardinia that pretends to be Miami's South Beach -- fancy and expensive resorts with fine dining and dancing till the wee hours. If that's what you're looking for, you can find it there -- not so much in Capri.

I say Sardinia. i can't go by experience, just research. To me, Capri seems very cliffy and the water in Sardinia is as blue as the Caribbean.
Like I said, I get this info from books.
I will be spending my first time to Italy in Sicily.

We just got back from Spain a few weeks ago, and the beaches there are far superior to anything that we saw in Capri. However, the food is much better in Capri ( maybe we just picked the wrong places in Spain?)and the scenery is spectacular.

Hi SFBoys, Capri and Sardegna are so very different from each other I don't know how one could compare one to the other. Try to go to both islands if you can.

Thanks for all the replies. We have decided on Capri and Positano for our Italy portion of our trip. We only have 4 days total and decided to spend 2 days in Positano and 2 days in Capri. What should be our first stop and any suggestions on smaller B&B's or boutique hotels??
