Capri in January?

We will be in Rome the last week in January
and I'd like input about visiting the island
of Capri during that time. Good or bad
idea? Thank you.

I don't know how Capri itself would be, but you might have difficulty getting over there by boat because of the rough waters....At least, that was our experience in November, and I assume it might be even more so in January.

Capri is AMAZING!! We went from Sorrento in April. The weather was poor and the hydrofoil ride rough. But trip was well worth it. However, much may be closed in January and may be a bit cold and rainy. You may want to check some guidebooks and the web: http://www.capriweb.com/Capri/index.htmland http://www.caprionline.com/. If you go, stay overnight in Capri itself, don't stay by the harbor. It is truly a magical island!

Much as I adore Capri, I'd not advise visiting in January. As Howard said, you may have a problem getting there if rough seas prevent the ferries from sailing.

Not only that, but mos of the beauty of Capri is in its flowers, warm breezes, and the people watching, all of which would be conspicuously absent in January. IMO it would be a waste of time and money.

Save both and go to Capri in between April and October. You'll enjoy it much more.

If you go there for new year's eve it's great fun. Big party on the piazzetta, lots of people from Naples and Rome spend their new year's vacation there, great for people watching, lots of beautifull women!, everything is opened, if you go there after the first week of January I then agree with the others posters it maybe better to go in April
