Planning a couple of days to Capri in August 2005.

Have read the previous posts regarding the merits of Anacapri vs. Capri. Based on these recommendations, it seems preferable to stay in Capri rather than Anacapri. However, our budget is not endless!

Looking for something nice, preferably w/ a pool, for under 200 Euros/night.

On caprionline.com, there is a Villa San Felice that looks nice. Any reviews?

Anacapri does look a little less pricey - but we will definitely spend the extra few dollars for the right choice.

My husband and I just returned from Capri this past October. We highly rec. Ceaser Augustus in Anacapri. There is bus service to Capri every ten minuetes. Although I think finding a room with nice ammenities you will need to pay a little more euro! Capri is not a inexpensive destination, but well worth the $$$$$. Hope you have fun

Staying in Anacapri is definitely more budget friendly, and sherri is correct, there is bus service to Capri every ten minutes. HOWEVER, in August, which is the month you are planning to go, it can be difficult to get a bus down to Capri from Anacapri. This past summer (2004) we waited, and waited, as bus after bus went by already full! Find out where the head of the line is and get on there or you will be waiting for a LONG time.

The hotel Syrene did look nice but we only saw the common areas not the guest rooms. We actually spent very little time in our room. We did use our balcony in the evenings to enjoy wine and review our digital photos from that day. I think you will be very happy to have a pool, especially in August. We used ours every day to cool off after a day of sightseeing and/or hiking. Capri is wonderful!

We stayed at the Villa San Felice last summer. It's a pretty hotel and the room was spacious and nice, and very centrally located. But we did have problems, one with the overhead light and the second being ants. The pool, which is gorgeous, broke down right before we arrived, and they were in the process of repairing it. Since we wanted to swim, we were allowed to use the pool at the Syrene.

What a place the Syrene is! If I had it to do over again, I'd stay there. It is also centrally located, the lobby is just gorgeous, and it has one of the best pools ever.

We stayed at the Hotel Syrene in 2001. I agree, the lobby is gorgeous! The room we had was spacious (by Italy standards), bright and airy with a nicely-tiled bathroom.

If the price was right, we would stay there again.

I also stayed in Anacapri at Caesar Augustus AND this was last August. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to Capri town as long as you give them a 2 hour notice. There was not a problem getting a bus or taxi back late at night -- it probably took 5-10 minutes.

I struggled with the same decision of which town was better -- both are great, transportation was not a problem for us AND Anacapri was a bit less crowded.

The island was super crazy busy in August, so it was VERY nice to have a hotel with a pool to retreat to during the day. Especially a hotel with such an amazing pool AND view! We stayed in one of their junior suites -- the balcony literally hangs over the water!! WHAT A VIEW!
