Capri Help

Me and my mother are spending 9 days in Rome in an apartment. But, we really would like to see Capri and some of the Amalfi Coast as well. We were thinking of doing a day an overnight trip to Capri then, leaving the next day and going to Amalfi/Atrani. Is it crazy to do try to get back from Amalfi to Rome in the same day that we arrived from Capri? I would hate to spend too much time away from Rome because we did already rent an apartment there. Any help and input would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi A,

> Is it crazy to do try to get back from Amalfi to Rome in the same day that we arrived from Capri?

It's doable, but not something that I would recommend.

Ferry Capri to Positano and on to Amalfi.

Ferry or Sita bus to Salerno.

Train from Salerno to Rome.

For Ferry schedules Positano – Amalfi - Salerno (P.zza della Concordia):

For trains see

Enjoy your visit.

Ali,

Honestly, trying to do Capri as an overnight trip from Rome would be a total waste of time and money.

You would spend 1/2 day getting there, stay over night and a half a day or more getting back. Capri is nice, but much better enjoyed at leisure!

There are much better places to go as a day trip out of Rome and you don't even have to stay overnight and spend more $$ on a room.

Orvieto and Tivoli I can personally, highly recommend. Many here like Ostia Antica, but I haven't been there myself.

Re-think this idea....

Buon viaggio!

okay... so we're rethinking our Capri idea, we might get rid of it all together, or just get rid of the Amalfi part of it. Thank you for your advice!

id do capri
even as a day trip
its a must see
and its amazing what you can fit in a day
mind you, we caught the ferry from naples so it didnt take so long to get there but im sure if you look into it four five hours on the island is still definitely worth it
its terribly expensive to stay there so i have heard but amazingly beautiful - and deceptively so because upon approach it just looks like some big rock, nothing special

Capri may be a 'must see' in the grand scheme of things, but that could be said of lots of other places which are also nowhere near Rome... Venice, Sicily, Paris - where do you draw the line ? To me it wouldn't be worth travelling from Rome to Capri for 1 night but I've seen even madder plans here to do it as a daytrip.

Are your flights already booked in & out of Rome or could you fly to/from Naples and visit Capri & possibly Amalfi at the beginning or end so you don't have to travel to & from Rome ?

If your flights can't be changed and you're still keen to go to Capri, I'd still do it at the end of your trip instead of in the middle - and consider staying there more than 1 night. It would at least save going in & out of Rome if you fly in to Rome, get the train to Naples, sail to Capri, stay there 1/2 nights, then sail/get the train back to Rome & start your stay there. If you are arriving from the US (assumption, as most people here do) your flight probably gets in early in the morning so you could be in Capri by the time you can check in to a hotel room.

Can't you change your Rome apartment booking ?

Caroline-
Our flights are in and out of FCO, and are set in stone at this point.
Also, our apartment rental, because our trip is within 60 days, is also fixed. We would lose our deposit, and it would prove difficult to find reasonable lodging by June 12th.

We've settled on an overnight trip just to Capri, we're not going on a weekend so we found a price for a B&B that's 100 EURO in Anacapri. We're getting an early start from Rome so we should have a good amount of time there.

I think you'll be glad that you've visited Capri. We did a day trip there from Rome, and I'm so glad that we did-it was one of the highlights of our trip. It's a beautiful, magical place. Staying overnight there will be wonderful. Have a great trip!
