Capri and Positano possible in 1 day ?

Will be in Sorrento for 1 day 8am-5pm, and wanted to visit Capri to show some friends, would it be feasible to then return to Sorrento and visit Positano and be back at dock by 5:00pm, if we use someone like "touritaly" ? I hate cramming in sites, but for the past 5 years and 5 trips to Italy, for one reason or another missed seeing Positano. Any thoughts?

It may be humanly possible to "visit" both places in one day, but I doubt it would be very satisfying. I'm guessing that if you're not back at the dock in Sorrento by 5 p.m., you'll miss your cruise ship departure (or turn into a pumpkin?). Not worth the stress of that deadline.

Intex - If you want to do both, the best way would be to go to Positano first by taxi (- about € 50-60)

You could then get the ferry (10.00) or hydrofoil (11.00) from Positano to Capri.

You could then return direct to Sorrento, leaving Capri about 16.00.

For ferry/hydrofoil timetables see:

Hope this helps ...

Hi In,

Either one or the other, not both.

Agreed. They are both charming and if I had to choose, I'd go to Capri. The boat ride alone will take up a good bit of your time. Positano is a lovely place to stay - but if you have to choose, I find Capri more scenic.

Don't do both. Too much too quick. Capri is more of a day-trip place, where Positano is more of a place to lay back and unwind. So I'd probably vote for Capri for a one-day trip, but I wouldn't rush it.

The main harbor there, Marina Grande, is a zoo and you'll find yourself waiting in a long line for a bus, taxi, or funicular ride up the hill to the main part of town. If you can arrange a boat ride to the Marina Piccolo on the other side of the island, you'll find that it's much more relaxed, much more beautiful, and has regular buses up the hill that aren't nearly so crowded.

After we shopped up on the hilltop, we went down to Marina Piccolo and caught a boat ride to Da Luigi, a wonderful little restaurant tucked away in a cove near the grottoes. The food is wonderful, and if you bring your bathing suit along, they also have a "beach club" - actually more like a lot of chaise longues and nice smooth rocks for sunning yourself and a very inviting swimming area with crystal clear water. You can while away a good chunk of the afternoon there and feel great about it.
