Stayed at Ottoman House. Easy walk to core. Very small town.

On the road into town, top of hill, there was a good shop that sold stone carvings. We followed recommendation of hotel and did a dinner/traditional dancing night at club outside of town. Good value, get to see Dervishes.

For my fairly detailed description of Göreme see my trip report: http://members.rennlist.org/imcarthur/goreme.htm

as to restaurants and accommodations in Urgup, which we very much enjoyed, we loved the Meleklervi Cave Hotel; and for restaurants, we enjoyed a dinner at both Ziggy's Cafe and Ehlikeyf.

We just returned from Turkey a few days ago. Based on recs from people here on Fodors, we stayed at Esbelli Evi in Urgup. It was perfect in every way.

It really depends on what you want. Depending on what you are looking for, Goreme, Urgup or Avanos could all be great. If you have transportation you may love Mustafapasa but it is a bit remote so you need your own transport. Goreme is like a center and has the rugs/carpets. Urgup is bigger. Avanos is full of pottery. I live in Cavusin between Avanos and Goreme. We love Cappadocia and can help as you need. Feel free to e-mail me and I can answer specific questions.
Have a great trip,
Duke Dillard

Hi Duke,
I am overwhelmed with the choices of hotels...one seems nicer than the next. I am doing a 5 night stay for Cappadocia toward the end of October and would like your recommendation as far as what town might be best to stay in. We like to find the more out of the way locations, less touristy, hotels that are charming, great views. Location convenient for good restaurants. Which towns would you recommend staying in for Cappadocia? Hotels too?
