Cappadocia renting van, hiring guide or tour?
We are going to be going to Cappadocia in July as part of our trip to Turkey in June/July. If we fly into Kaseri or take the overnight bus, will we be able to find a van to rent? There are 6 in our group and so we will not fit into the small cars that seem to be available.
If not, can we find a private guide with a vehicle for 6? How much will that cost?. Our third option is to join one of the 3 day tours which seem to run around $50-$65 per person from the recommended companies on Fodors and Trip Advisor. This seems pretty reasonable, but it seems to me that I should be able to get a private guide and transport for $300/day. Any thoughts out there? Thank you all, all of the posts here have really helped me plan. Kevin |
You can rent a nine-seater van for about $100 per day from Kayseri airport with these people:

We stayed at the Yunak Evleri Hotel (http://www.yunak.com) and they sent a shuttle to pick us up which was free to get to the hotel and $10 per person to return to the airport a few days later. It was a large shuttle fitting about 10+ people. It's a very nice hotel built into the cave walls. We then hired Middle earth Travel for our touring (http://www.middleearthtravel.com/day_treks.html) who were totally flexible about how we arranged our tour time with them and were therefore open to negotiation. We hired them for one day with a guide/driver who was able to explain all the sites then the next day we wanted just a driver so we could wander on our own. It was perfect for us. That cost was 150 euros total but that was just for 2 people. We decided it was an easy enough area to drive around and we probably could have done that on our own but it was much more relaxing this way. Good luck with yrou trip plans, Cappadocia is amazing!

The owner of La Vieille Maison Grecque (http://www.pachahotel.com/index.htm) in Mustafapasha (5 km. from Ürgüp) owns a van and gives tours--I do not know if they are restricted to guests, either by choice or by law. Click on my name to find my trip report.

This is the URL that will connect you to the Pacha Hotel, aka La Vieille Maison Grecque: http://www.pachahotel.com/

You can also have a van and guide within given budget so you do not worry about gasoline and driving.
I do not know about what Pacha Hotel offers but be aware taking tours from 3rd. parties and check out if your tour has a company ( it is easy you will see a Blue&white placard on the van saying Tursab ) and you have a legitimate certified guide. Staying 3 days in Cappadocia is nice. Happy travelling, Murat |
My husband &I were in Turkey Sept 06. We had a wonderful guide in Cappadocia. [email protected]
We stayed in a cave hotel for 2 nights-can't remember the name but it was just opening. He got us a good rate for the package. He also arranged for us a guide in Kusadasi & some hotels in Assos & Kusadasi. While we were in our timeshare in Yalova I wasn't happy about what little they had to offer so I called him & he arranged a night in Bursa. I called him later & asked if he could get us an extra night in Assos on the drive down to Kusadisi. I have no idea if he is still a tour guide so if that address doesn't work try Argeut Tourism & Travel. Enjoy Cappadocia and if you use Edip please say Chris said hi. He was a wonderful guide |
