Cappadocia Cave hotel suggestion
 

Need suggestion on which cave hotel to stay in cappadocia. I am leaning towards Kelebek. However, it's hard to pick a room given the variety of options.

www.esbelli.com best one in Urgup, cozy cave, centrally located, WIDEST rooms in the region, dry caves that not smell rust or humidity. smiling people ready to satisfy you, Lap tops in each room, wireless internet all over the place, first boutique of the region.

www.kalekonak.com best one in Uchisar. the highest hotel in the region. amazing views from the terraces and some rooms. BB but prepares dinner as well if requested in advance that you shouldt miss. The property has a turkish bath that is only for the hotels guests and in general you are alone hangin there. you can ask for Tellak who can wash you up there :)

www.4oda.com new management, young lad passionate for tourism and newly restored rooms which are all comfy.

If i had 3 nights in Cappadocia, i would stay in three of them :)
if you have children, definitely Esbelli Evi.

Esbelli Evi is one of our favorite hotels anywhere.

But if you trouble negotiating steps ask for a room convenient to the main area.

We stayed the Kelebek last June and loved it, next time am going to stay an extra day just to enjoy the hotel. Do try and make it to their organic farm for breakfast if you have time.

Esbeli Evi is also one of our favorite hotels anywhere and had the best service of any hotel we have ever been lucky enough to stay. Our suite would have been great to actually live in. Lovely breakfast. Easy walk into town.

Seems you have a tough choice, but either way, you win.

geetika have an important point, if you will stay in Esbelli or Kelebek, it is better to book an extra night just for the hotel.

We stayed at the Kelebek for 3 nights in room 17. We loved it. The views off the terrace were fantastic. One morning we woke up to dozens of balloons overhead. Service and food was economical and delicious. From the Kelebek you can walk to town and the Goreme Open Air Museum.

BarbAnn, I'm staying in that room later this year! I'm so glad to read you loved it.

We are thinking about visiting in early Oct ...
If one stays in Urgup...do you take a taxi to Gorem?

Totally agree about Kelebek. I stayed there 3 days and totally loved it. The breakfasts and views were awesome. Could have happily stayed longer. Easy to walk to many attractions in and around Goreme, as others above have noted.

Local bus or taxi easily between Goreme and Urgup. I took the bus (minivan) twice with no difficulty.

Thanks to everyone for helping me make a decision on Kelebek..We have booked our 3 nights for this may and are looking forward to this trip

Here's another vote for the Kelebek!
Don't miss the balloons early in the morning; it's an amazing sight and a wonderful experience to go on a flight yourself.

We had an excellent guide who took us to many off the beaten path sites. You'll have a great time.

No problem Danon. This thread made me go back and take a look at my pictures of the beautiful and unusual Cappadocia landscape as well as the Kelebek and my cave room there, and I came across a picture of the minivan bus and the friendly driver on one of the trips. I remember not being able to find the 'beanie' style woven wool caps he and other Turkish men were wearing and asked him where I could get them. I paid just 2YTL each for a couple from a local shop he directed me to.

I also got some amazing pictures of the spectacular places we were passing from the window of the bus so keep your eye open if you take the bus. It had rained in the afternoon and the sun came out in the early evening on the journey back to Goreme, lighting everything in warm colours with the added bonus of a rainbow in the sky. Turkey in general is a very beautiful country, but this region is spectacular.

I always thought if we did not have enough closet space, I would just carve one out of the stone.

It sounds like local transportation is pretty reliable. Is there any reason to rent a car?

All the tips sound great, and yes we are definitely planning the hot air ballon ride
