I also agree with the others -- Ephesus is a great site to visit, but there is no place like Cappadocia.

It's not just the unique and spectacular landscape, though - it's also about visiting a region that is rural and feels very intimate, especially in the smaller towns. My memories of our visit are as much about the people we met as it is about the remarkable scenery.

Progol, Every person we spoke with was so kindly, and never seemed to be just trying to sell us anything.

The staff at our hotel was the best ever.

DH thought he might have left a favorite hat in a restaurant, wasn't sure. The next day, we walked in to check. The owner came hurrying out holding the hat. He said if he had known where we were staying, he would have called or brought it to us, but he hoped we would come back.

After our tour of the underground city, we talked longer with our guide, who was probably in his 70s, and told him how much we enjoyed the tour, how he really made us feel the experience. He gave a big smile and shared with us that he had actually lived in the underground as a child. Of course, then we really had lots of questions. He told us about the govt paying people to move out, etc. He seemed truly happy to share his personal experiences with us. It was one of the few tours I've taken that gave me really great memories.

It was like that with everyone in Cappadocia.

Progol, I intended to say I second everything you said about the people.
