That's very bad news. As yet, I haven't received anything like that, but there are no Cap One branches near where I live.

Oh no, not the foreign transaction fee too. I'll go back to my credit union for international travel.

LuvToRoam Jun 20th, 2012 08:29 AM

Darn, I use my Cap 1 charge card when we travel, plan B I guess, more research to do!

My Cap One credit card has no foreign transaction fees and no annual fee.

My Cap One ATM card is attached to my new High Yield Checking Account... which I recently changed to in order to avoid ATM transaction fees anywhere at any bank (Europe included).

I have a CAP 1 debit card. I just read the notice i received again. International ATM fees are vaived on High Yield Checking, High Interest Free Checking, Platinum and Tower Gold accounts. I only use this card when I travel. My personal banking and most of my business banking is done with Wells Fargo. Maybe it's time to switch everything to Cap 1.

I have a Cap One money market account that is associated with my Costco membership. I just received an e-mail stating that Cap One and Costco will no longer be partners, and my preferred interest rate will drop to a standard rate on January 1. I guess a lot of changes are going on with Cap One -- none of them good.

I have a Capital One credit card, and a money market account that comes with a debit card. Neither carries a foreign transaction fee, and the ATM does not add a withdrawal fee overseas. I had heard the rumors of them changing their policy since they acquired ING, so called them a couple of weeks ago. They told me at that time that there would be no changes.

Since I will be going to Europe in October, I had better call them again to make sure --- or make other arrangements.

Sigh -------------

I also just reviewed all the fine print on what kind of rental car insurance coverage we get with our cards (AmEx, CapOne) and have discovered that is basically next to nothing anymore, so we'll need to consider which we'll use for rental cars while traveling as well.

Thank you for that heads up, too, uhoh. Seems I had better start doing the fine print reviews before I rely on credit card insurance. I know those notices come around, but who reads them?

I should.

I bought AMEX Premium car insurance for $24.95. It is primary coverage and has no deductible.

I've been a Cap1 customer for some time, and I was dismayed about their imposition of the 3% fee on ATM withdrawals. I just set up an account with State Farm Bank, which has no fees, no minimum, and they reimburse other banks' ATM fees up to $10/month (or more if you have direct deposit). I transfer money into that account when I travel.

thursdaysd Aug 21st, 2012 01:48 PM

If you go read the newer thread on this you will see that whether you pay the 3% depends on which account you have. Mine still doesn't carry it.

we're talking about $2 a pop - less than a cup of coffee - penny wise and pound foolish.

This is a 3 year old thread that someone topped and the info might no longer be current.
