Capadoccia v. Ephesus
 

We're a family travelling to Turkey at Xmas-time. As we divvy up the days, we trying to decide whether to give more days to Ephesus or to Capadoccia. Anyone care to weigh in on whether we should spend 3 days in Capadoccia and 2 in Ephesus, or vice versa? Two people have given us opposite opinions! Thanks so much

I'll take a swag. Went in August 07, 4 kids.

We did both, I would have liked to spend a bit more time exploring Cappadocia. We stayed in Goreme, which was a neat little town. I would have liked to wander around there a bit more. We also did a Turkish dance night, an underground city, and hiked in the Ilhara valley. All this in one overnight and two days. Cappadocia is so different than any other countryside I have ever seen.

For Ephesus, we did it as a drive through as we were on our way back to Istanbul We spent a good 1/2 day at the main site, but not the other surrounding ones. I would have liked a bit more time to explore the area, get a guided tour,etc..

This is like saying, should i eat rib eye or New York strip.

How can anyone else know what excites your taste buds?
A British friend's father who went to visit his son in Saudi Arabia preferred to watch beheadings on Friday rather than going to a desert safari. Would you have liked his advice?

Not sure I understand the last comment. Why ask opinions on an opinion site??

I say more time in Capadoccia. In Ephesus, you can see the site and museum in one day, leaving the second day to explore the area a bit. Even take the ferry to Greece for a day trip.

Cappadocia has more to offer in my opinion, but the weather may be a factor against a longer stay there.

christycruz, the two sites are very different and also have different climates.

It is impossible for anyone to know what type of weather or natural or antique sight will be pleasing to the OP.

You can advise someone to prefer one museum over another in New York, maybe (and that is a big maybe) but this is like, should i go to Orlando or Seattle.

Anyone asking these types of questions, should give more information about their interests, particulars and likes and dislikes, so we can try to think like them before we can think for them.

I cannot see why an OP should regard the response of someone who says, well, i've been to Orlando and not to seattle, but you should definitely go to Orlando, because it is so neat.

So, for all you know, he may be the person who likes to watch beheadings.

Cap more time, Eph less. One day plenty for Eph, four OK in Cap. In my opinion. We did it exactly in those time segments and were not at all regretful.

Ephesus is easy to see in a day. Cappadocia is a large geographic area with many different sights, including underground cities, hiking and much more. We spent about a day and a half in Selcuk (Ephesus) and three and a half in Cappadocia which was just right for us.

Having said that, as otherchelebi points out, it really depends on what your interests are.
