Cantwell Court or Villa near Kilkenny

Has anyone visited Cantwell Court or Cantwell Villa near Kilkenny. We have Cantwells as relatives and I was hoping to visit the castle--if it still exists. Also any tips on restaurants in or near Kilkenny would be a great help.

Many thanks,

I don't know it - but to maybe help w/ your research . . . my guess is it's 'vill' not 'villa'

Cantwell's Court appears to be a 'townsland' which is a small district/land tract, not a town or anything. Vill means sort of the same thing.

A couple of links:

It seems there are some ruins for you to inspect.

Thanks all for the quick responses. Just looked up Sandford's Castle and that seems to be what I was referring to. I much appreciate the help.

There is a Cantwell Castle in Sandfordscourt, about 5Km NE of Kilkenny.http://www.geograph.ie/photo/1589435

There is an effigy as well https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantwell_Fada

My father used to tell me that the Cantwell Fada had unified much of southern ireland....
