Can't wait! But need help..

So I've done a good amount of research on where to go but still need some guidance. I will be leaving July 16th to Amsterdam and coming home from London on Aug 3. Here is what I have so far:

Amsterdam
Brussels
Luxembourg
Cologne
Somewhere in between Cologne and Nice
Nice (Then to St. Tropez because I'm looking to party, a lot)
Paris
London

PLEASE let me know how you feel about this itinerary, does it make sense in the time I have? Are there places that I should scratch off/replace on this list?

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not counting your arrival/depature day, sounds like you have July 17 -> Aug 2, which is 17 days. You want to visit 8 destinations in 17 days? That's 2 days per destination.

No, scratch that. We're talking about 1.5 days per destination, because every time you move from one place to another, you waste half a day.

I can't tell you which ones to skip, without knowing where you've been in Europe, what your interests are, how many (and ages) in your party, and why you picked these 8 destinations in the first place.

Ok so I guess I need to skim down this list. I havn't been anywhere on this list except for London so everything will be new to me.

I am 23 and will be traveling with 2 other people around the same age as me.

Thanks!

With 17 days, pick three home bases. Suggest Amsterdam, Paris, London. A million things to do while home basing there. Day trips from Amsterdam include day train to Brussels and Dusseldorf.

Luxembourg??? WHY....?

If I was to stretched it for one more place, a no-brainer...NICE!

There you are done, stop the dilly-dally, you do not have time, start settling your plans for lodging/trains, etc....

If your goal is to party , then do
Amsterdam
Nice
Paris
London

Love the advice, I guess I just got excited and wanted to hit up as many places as possible. Nice is almost a must for me but I'm not sure how to go by getting there. Would an overnight train from Amsterdam or Brussels be a good idea?
From there I would go to Paris and work my way up to London

check for budget airlines and see if any flies that route. www.whichbudget.com

You have four choices to fly direct Amsterdam- Nice: Transavia Airlines, KLM, Air France, and Lufthansa. Cheapest in July? Transavia at range 80-100€ one way. Schedule may force you to choose Lufthansa. Considering the time and logistics savings, I would advice fly into Amsterdam, fly out to Nice, train to Paris, train to London.

Again, high season, very popular destinations, start booking.

- July 17 - Arrive in Amsterdam

- July 20 - 8:30 or 12:30 TGV to Paris. You're probably too late to get super cheap tickets.

- July 25 early TGV to Nice (to get there Sat night)

- July 29 Fly to London from Nice.

- Aug 3 fly home.

This is really coming together, I just want to thank you guys for being so helpful. It looks the the itinerary will definitely be Amsterdam, Nice, Paris, London. I didn't even think about flying to Nice but that does make perfect sense if the tickets aren't too bad.

StuDudley Jun 4th, 2009 09:26 AM

There are some 70E TGV (train) seats available in both first & second class from Paris to Nice early in the morning on the 24th.

How much am I looking at for a flight from Nice to London? Best website to go to?

hadler45 Jun 4th, 2009 10:09 AM

Just looked at tickets, only $79 from Nice to London! I'm definitely doing that

did you click on the link I provided earlier?

Another SUPER BUDGET option is Eurolines. I used to take them when I was young like you and had no money. Of course, this was long before budget airlines become so widespread and popular.

You can't pay me enough to take Eurolines anymore! I'm too old for that.

YK
That is so true, the older we get the more comfort we require.
And I am willing to pay for it...

You should also know that the drive from Nice to St. Tropez is approx. 2- 2 1/2 hours and that the traffic getting into the heart of St. Tropez is hellish at best during high-season. In addition, partying in St. Tropez is VERY expensive. Just FYI. There are lots of bars/clubs in Nice open during the summer season so you won't lack for options.
