Pamplona has always been a feria for drunks. Generally all ferias are for drunks. And how much might it cost to clean up the Tomatina ? Pleeze ! Stay away from such events if you don't like such behavior.

live streaming of drunks, I rather love seeing that. Perhaps in the name of humane treatment of dumb animals they could give a few shots to the bulls?

"Generally all ferias are for drunks."
I disagree: I have lived in an Andalucian village for 5 years and have yet to see someone drunk at a feria.

What an exemplary village Montejaque must be ! But, I rather suspect you go to bed early to be up early for your walks in the Serrania. My husband and I are party people so we've seen another side to this at ferias all over Spain. He's in his 52nd year of ferias; I'm in my 48th. Take off your rose-colored glasses for a reality check. See you at the Goyesca on Sept. 8th ??

Must be the only town in Spain with Baptists. San Fermin is known for the drunks who do not have hotel rooms.

For all those who complain about the treatment of the bulls here is a list of by-products of cattle, that other people kill and manufacture for you, so do not have to see it:

Gel capsules often are made from bovine gelatin.

Bars of soap probably come from processed cow tallow fat.

Asphalt roads may contain bovine fatty acids.

Cars and trucks may ply those roads on rubber tires made
with cow oils.

The explosive nitroglycerine is manufactured from glycerine, which is extracted from cow fat.

Cattle byproducts go into everything from photographic film to matchstick heads.
Consider:

Glue made from cow's blood is widely used to make plywood.

The cow's nasal septum is processed into chondroitin sulfate, an alternative medical treatment for arthritis.

Extracted protein from horns and hooves goes into foam for fire extinguishers.

The root gland of the tongue yields pregastric lipase, which is used in cheese production as a curdling agent.

Tissue from the small intestines becomes catgut for racket strings or surgical sutures.

Epinephrine from the adrenal gland can treat hay fever, asthma or other allergies, or stimulate the heart in the event of cardiac arrest.

Catalase, a liver enzyme, goes into contact lens care products.

Quite the opposite. People who attend ferias in the villages around here drink, get merry, but never get drunk. Since there are at least two big ferias in each village every year, there is plenty of opportunity.

I think there is a cultural difference here. It would be unthinkable for people around here in Andalucia to be seen rolling drunk. In other places, getting drunk would be the goal.

"San Fermin is known for the drunks who do not have hotel rooms."
That I agree with. However, Pamplona is not the only town, city or village in Spain to hold ferias. It is perhaps the one that is best known internationally.

Those who drink to get drunk are those still in school, and those foreigners who come in mass herds have no idea what the fiesta is about.

Oh good, glad to see that you recognize that Spaniards have their little tipple. Falling down, roaring drunk there are very few, but many certainly have on a buzz, become merry, as you say. That's what ferias are all about.

@Bedar. As I am sure you are aware, there is a big difference between "all ferias are for drunks" and people getting merry at a feria. As is the case of most locals in Montejaque, I enjoy the latter and have been known to stay up all night.

As someone who used to live in the UK, the former is something I will never miss.

Well, perhaps I shouldn't have used the term "drunks". I was probably influenced by the current commercials on television that state having on a buzz, getting merry so to speak, is tantamount to being drunk. Therefore, don't drink and drive !
