Can't get to Beaune on a Saturday -- other good markets in Burgundy?
I have just spent a week in Normandy, and although there are many reasons to love the region, I was very disappointed by the weekly markets saw. But then, I didn't do any advance research.
One of the problems with renting a gite is the Saturday start -- so many of the best markets are on Saturdays, before you arrive, or as you are preparing to depart.
Such will be the case for my week in Burgundy; the great market seems to be in Beaune on a Saturday, and that won't work for me. Can anyone recommend other large markets near Beaune on any other day of the week? Food, clothes, household goods, the works....

To add on to my own question: I have seen the lists available on the 'net showing market days, and they're extensive.
What I'm hoping for is advice on which markets are large and enjoyable ones. I have no objections to those considered touristy. I am a tourist....

There is a market in Chalon sur Saone on Sunday and also Friday. Not sure which is bigger. It is in the old centre which has lovely half-timbered buildings. Did you visit the market in St Pierre sur Dives in Normandy? It was huge and very lively with people buying ducklings and goslings and rabbits.

Hey rhon,
Unfortunately, I didn't go to the market in St Pierre sur Dives, and that's a shame, because it sounds like something I would have enjoyed. But this is what happens -- to me -- when I fail to do much research before a trip. I miss the good stuff.
So I'm making lists for the other weeks in France in June, Burgundy, the Alps, and the Lot....
Thanks to you, and kerouac too, for the advice.

On Thursday it is smaller, just the indoor part but I think the other days are quite similar, maybe a bit busier on Saturday with additional clothes displays on Place François Rude.
If you haven't already seen this 2007 video on the forum, check the first 2 mins to see the market. I can also see that Dijon has improved with more pedestrian streets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDSaNQT-Cho

My husband and I rented a lovely apartment in Dijon for half of April, returning home only days ago. (By the way, see it at http://www.myhomeindijon.com/ - we highly recommend it for future stays and the location can't be beat!) I can confirm that the Thursday market is slightly smaller, but there is more than enough going on to make it worth the trip. Saturday is the best.. it's "Foodie Heaven" and if you enjoy wandering among racks of inexpensive clothing, accessories, household goods and the like, you'll love the vendors set up on the streets surrounding it. I think the market in Dijon is fantastic.. in fact, I can't imagine better with a greater variety of food for sale. Have a wonderful time in France!
