Can't find the post on Sant' Antimo. Help!
 

This post gave the current times for the Monks' Chanting.
I can't figure out much from the website.
We will be staying about an hour away - so really need to be there at the right time, as we probably won't be going back in that direction.
Can anyone help me with current info?

Hi Steve,
This is a great link and gives lots of information including the Historical and Artistic background.

BUT! It doesn't say what times the services or the chants are. Or perhaps it does, but I'm not familiar with the liturgical terms.

The page I was hoping for is written by one of the posters here on Fordor's and just gives the times of the chants and also suggestions for what time to get there, how to get there and possibly, where to eat (always important to me!)

Along the left side of the web page, scroll down to "prayer and visiting hours" and probably beginning with Sext and None (these are the names of the liturgical Hours when the monks chant) and Mass (Messa) you can visit to hear the chanting. Back in town there is a very nice little restaurant just as you make the turn to go up to the Abbey. Hope this helps.

Also, from Montalcino, follow the brown signs for the Abbey. Only about 15 - 20 minutes further.

Before or after the chants, make sure you go down the few steps (near the altar) into a small underground chapel. Look for the fresco of the sweet cherub on the left side! Nice!

There is a hiking trail that you can take from near Montalcino to the Abbey if you are interested in a walk...we ended up not doing that, but it sounds like a nice hike through the countryside.

Steve - your 2nd link is great but I already have it copied out. The problem is that Pauline wrote that in 2002 and I wasn't sure if the times have changed.

Peggyann - thanks for the interpretation of the terms! Just what I needed.

Trying to get all my ducks in a row - we leave on Friday!! (2 more nights to lay awake and wonder if I am thinking of everything.....)
