canoe trips in France?
Does anyone have any knowledge of where I might find a guided, somewhat challenging, canoe trip during July? I'll be based in the south near Nice.

I can't think of any in that area...most of the best and most challenging are in the Ardeche, the Savoie and Haute Savoie and in the Pyrenees.<BR><BR>PB

I believe you should check out the Gorges du Tarn area. I think they offer river sports & hiking, etc. <BR>website: http://www.aveyron.com/english/tourism/tarn.html<BR><BR>We plan on stopping in the area.<BR><BR>Good luck! Shannon

I agree with Shannon. We stayed in the Tarn valley and saw all the canoeing they have available. The water is great but very cold due to the canyon area. At least it was in late May. Canoeing there will be easy to do. It is so gorgeous there and rustic. Have fun.

Do you mean American canoeing or kayaking? The Brits call kayaking-caneoing.

There are a number of rafting/kayaking businesses around Barcelonette (l'Ubaye and other rivers in the area) and at least one that I know of in Castellane (near the Canyon du Verdon). These towns are much closer to Nice than the Tarn. I really don't know if they have canoes as well.

Here's a good website I found in my files:<BR><BR>http://www.france-travel.net/kayaking_canoeing_rafting_in_france.htm<BR><BR>PB

Here's another website:<BR><BR>www.beyond.fr/sports/rafting04.html<BR><BR>It provides the names of numerous companies operating in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Some of them offer kayaking or canoeing in addition to rafting.
