Cannes-Florence Train/Car

I am visiting Cannes for a meeting in September. I want to visit Florence. I am trying to determine whether is is better - to get a car or take the train. FS says they only have one train from Nice to Milan per day, then switch for Milan to Florence. How is the driving that way?

There seems to be only one DIRECT (no changes) train a day leaving Nice at 7:07 AM.
There are other trains which require one or two changes and are actually faster than the direct service..these take about five hours.
You may be better off driving if you don't want to deal with train changes.

Oops, sorry...the info I gave you above was from Nice, not Cannes....from the latter you're looking at an 11 hour trip in some cases...I would definitely think about using a car or flying if you can find a cheap air ticket. Have a great trip

I have driven from Nice to Florence and back on a couple of occasions. I really enjoyed the drive but I was not on any time schedule and would take an occasional side trip, like Portofino. Have never taken the train but would not give up the freedom of an auto unless I was on a strict time schedule.

I would check and see if the train is running from Nice to Florence because I was just there a few weeks ago and the tunnel was closed through which the train goes direct to Milan!! However we drove from Nice to Florence and it was very enjoyable. We stopped in Pisa on the way. Overall, I think it took about 4 hours. Good luck with your plans.
