Four YEARS since you bought them? I sure wouldn;t risk it - but you could call your local poison control center and ask.

is canned shrimp pate "good" even when it is new?

Nina66 Oct 21st, 2006 08:23 PM

Patrick, we'll never know unless fsoley opens and tastes it. If we don't hear anything within 24 hours, we'll know for sure! :-((

Seriously, I do the same thing, keeping food items as souveniers, but after four years, even I would be afraid to eat it. Keep one unopened can as a momento, and toss the others.

Out of curiousity, fpsoley, have you even eaten any of the canned shrimp pate, either here or in France? I don't think that I have ever tasted it, but it sounds good.

I have a can of poisson (sp) soup that a Parisian friend brought us in 2002. He actually brought us two cans and the first was excellent, so I decided to save the second one for a 'special occasion'. Apparently that special occasion never arrived as it is still in my pantry.

1-2-3 .....let's toss the fish soup and the shrimp pate together.

Have a look at the box/jar (?) there should be a "best before" date on it (generally on the top, sometimes on the bottom or the side of the label)

Hi fp,

Anything that's been dead for 4 years is not to be trusted.

If the can is intact and not bulging it is okay. Might not be real good tasting.
