Cancellation of flight-compensation?
Has anyone on this forum ever received a voucher from Delta for a cancelled flight? My flight from Nice to Amsterdam where I was to make a connection to Atlanta was cancelled with no explanation. I was given vouchers for dinner and breakfast along with the hotel, but is it possible to get a voucher from Delta? I was delayed getting home by 21 hours.

When something similar happened to us on US Airways (MAN > PHL, equipment issue) we received $150 vouchers via email, a few weeks later.
We also were fed and housed when stuck at MAN. So, I would think it wouldn't be impossible. They did put you another flight, right? |
Yes, my flight was re-booked the next day. How do I go about asking for the voucher?
|
Though Delta is a US airline, since your flight originated in France, the EU rules apply, and you are likely entitled to cash, not just a voucher. In fact, if they try to talk you into accepting a voucher, think thrice before agreeing as such vouchers often come with significant restrictions on when and how they can be used, and this fine print is not completely disclosed until you try to redeem. Have a look at the info on http://www.airpassengerrights.eu/
You are entitled to cash - EUR 250 for all flights of 1500 kilometers or less; - EUR 400 for all intra-Community flights of more than 1500 kilometers, and for all other flights between 1500 and 3500 kilometers. - EUR 600 for all other flights. |
tuscanlifeedit and Seamus---Thanks for the input. Since I booked through Delta, do I ask for compensation through them? The NCE-AMS and the AMS-ATL were both KLM. I was re-booked the next day on Air France. And I really, really liked Air France much more than Delta.
|
In general, Delta stinks and Air France is good. But you probably have to deal with them since it was their code share you were taking.
|
Get a copy of the rules posted by Seamus and include them in a letter requesting compensation.
|
Read Seamus's link then download and fill in this form: http://preview.tinyurl.com/y96b4dq and send it to either Delta or to the French national enforcement agency http://www.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/.

Check out Flyertalk (might be on the Delta forum or KLM)for other threads about this flight and see what other people asked for/got.

If your ticket is DL, it is DL that must compensate you.
|
I have in the US. I don't see why you wouldn't there. In the US, you usually have to ask for a travel voucher (e-credit) when you get your food vouchers. I do think you can still get credit.
Although I do have some status as FF on Delta, I would explore it with them. I have received all kinds of perks from Delta when I have taken the time to complain (late flights, cancelled flights, no food available for purchase, terrible service within airport, etc...). They have a customer contact info on their site. Push for compensation if you have to. |
DL must compenate you if you are due anything contact them
Was in a similar situation with the Iceland Volcano Airline did nothing I did recover with trip insurance though Your contract of carriage states specifically what you are due I have not reovered anything in Europe from a US carrier as long as I was not delayed for more than 24 hours. Good luck! |
Are we saying the my 150 USD voucher was not all that I was entitled to?
I'm a little confused. This flight began in Manchester, UK, and was headed to PHL. |
yes, tuscan, if you were on a flight originating in the EU (as it appears you were) you are entitled to more. See the link above for the pertinent rules. You have to be willing to deal with the almost certain multiple denials from the airline before they cough up, though.
And qwo - unlike in the US, the contract of carriage is trumped by the EU rules when the flight operates in the EU. The flag of the carrier nor the nationality of the passenger matter here. |
I really appreciate all this info. So it will be better for me to send a request for compensation by mail and not on Delta website complaint key?
|
You could try both. What have you got to lose?
|
I've already printed out the forms. Since I was prepared for nothing, and already got a $150.00 voucher, I can be quite patient about resubmitting my complaint after any denials.
Many many thanks. |
If you go to the link provided above by hetismij2 http://preview.tinyurl.com/y96b4dq you will see that it includes instructions on how to proceed.

I was on a Delta flight from hell last June.
The flight was cabcelled just before midnight because the pilot exceeded is allowable hours and they didn't have another. Since they were storms in the area of Atlanta airport there were no hetoel rooms available in the area. They paid for the taxi and hotel room we found after some negotiation. They also sent me $150 ticket vouchers good for a year for each person. If I remember correctly I didn't have to do much to get those. I was up half the night in line waiting to be rescheduled before leaving for the "hotel" (dump). |
Myer - sounds like your experience was with a domestic flight. That is governed by different rules than scatcat's flight in the EU.
