Canary or Balearic Islands
 

Anyone travel to these places in June? Get by with English? Any bad experiences?

Well, not in June, but in August and winter time. Yes, you get by in English, as they both are major tourist places (except the smaller Canary islands). Balearics in summer/spring/autumn, and Canaries throughout the year are full of people from Central/Northern Europe. And no, no bad experiences, except perhaps a very hot, very crowded August in Mallorca. But that was expected, so it did not come as a surprise.

I AM PLANNING TO TRAVEL TO MADRID,THEN TO THE BALEARIC ISLANDS IN THE BEGINNING<BR>OF MAY. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY RECOMMEDED<BR>HOTELS IN THE ISLANDS &amp; ARE THEY WORTH TRAVELING TO?

Speaking of Canaries, and more specifically Tenerife:<BR><BR> . . . like elina, not in June but in August and in March. No problems with English only, though it was helpful to speak a little Spanish (do you know what &quot;coto de caza&quot; means?). Both times that I was there it may have been more helpful to speak a little German, there were large numbers of German tour groups.

I went to Ibiza in July and was plesantly surprised it wasn't all that crowded. I think August is the month for all the Europeans to go on vacation. I enjoyed it and had no trouble with just speaking English. It's beautiful there and I'm sure Mallorca is too, except bigger. If you do go to Ibiza, consider staying in Santa Eulalia. I took a boat ride there and went back another day by bus. Much more pleasant than being in town. Have fun.
