canal view hotels in venice
 

My parents will be in Venice in the second week of October and I'd like to gift them a canal view room. I'd to know whether there are double rooms available for about EUR200 a night with balcony, look forward to your suggestions

October is still a high season and canal view comes with premium price. Still if you are asking just for a canal view and not of the Grand Canal, it may be possible. The followings come to my mind.

- Locanda Leon Bianco ( in Cannaregio. Grand canal view )
- Gelleria (Dorsoduro, by Academia Bridge – Grand Canal View, heard their rooms are small. Can be the cheapest hotel with Grand Canal view)
- Pensione Academia ( Dorsoduro, side canal view, standard rooms are quite small. )
- La Calcina ( Dorsoduro, Giudecca canal view . Giudecca is the largest ? canal of Venice separating Venice from Giudecca Island )
- Ca Zosé ( Dorsoduro, a side canal view )
- Mercurio (St.Marco, at least a couple of rooms with a side canal view. It seems Mozart stayed at the house across the canal. The sign on the wall that you can see from the canal view room says so.

Except for Galleria where I have never stayed, I can recommend all, just not sure if they have rooms within your budget.

If you really want a balcony you need to check on that. there are many rooms with canal views - very few with a balcony in my experience.

I applaud your wanting to gift a room to your parents. However, a room with a balcony and canal view for 200 euros is going to be tough to find. And often, less expensive rooms with canal view are quite small and lack amenities -- you're paying for the view.

A friend of ours stayed in a (side) canal-view room at the Locanda Orseolo and said she liked it. But I think you'd have to push your budget up to about US$300 to get something there.

In a canal of any size, you are likely to see:
Garbage boats
Delivery boats with everything on board - bricks, linen for hotels, crates of Johnie Walker, Aperol and Campari, plumbing fittings, flat pack furniture from Ikea.
Water taxis
Tradesmen's boats with tools, maybe a circular saw in action.
Maintenance boats
Police boats
Fireboats (with sirens)

So a canal view can be really interesting. Noisy too.

Another plus of the side canals - not as noisy!

We stayed in a canal view room at Palazzo Guardi in Dusodoro (room 5 I think - the green one), no balcony sorry, but we enjoyed our stay and didn't find it noisy.
