Canal Barge with Children?

We are thinking of doing a self-drive barge trip with two little boys (5 and 9). Would that be fun or torture?

Haven't done one of those self drive barges in about 10 years. When we did them, we did France and then Holland later on. I don't think it would be torture, but it of course depends on the children. They might get a little bored but what child doesn't. Make sure you can rent bikes they can ride for trips away from the canals and for riding along the banks. When in France we saw many people with small children. I know they enjoyed opening and closing the locks.

Good Luck
