I know Canada is heaven . Just now and then some farmer feeding his victims to the pigs ;-) Do you really know where "evil" will strike? Honestly Palermo feels a lot safer than Miami, but then (as much as I love Canada), Miami is more fun...

Aren't we relatively safer when we're in our home city than we are when we're travelling? Tourists are targets whether they're in Canada, the US or Europe, no? I'm concerned about my trip to London & Paris (using my CIBC Visa and Alberta Treasury Branch debit card, by the way) but not because I think London & Paris are necessarily "more dangerous" than home.

"Deutschbank is in Italy so the 5.00 USD or Canadian can be avoided by using those ATM"

That is true - I remember specifically checking this before I went to Italy last year. However, my ATM card wouldn't work in any Deutschbank ATM machines in Florence or Rome. I had to cross the street and use Banco Roma (?) ATM's and swallow the $5 s/c fee that Scotia charges.

I did call Scotia while I was in Italy and the customer service (who are usually very helpful) was all "I don't know why it isn't working...." and then waived the $5 fee I had been charged. However, I continued to have trouble with the Duetcshe ATM so when I got home I had Scotia reverse ALL charges related to my overseas trip.

Total pain, but now I know, and will expect the same thing later. I do recall the exchange was pretty decent.
