Can you tell me about using the Istanbul airport left luggage service?

I have a 3-day stopover in Istanbul and would like to leave my bags at the airport. (I am flying home after living in Africa for a year so I will have a huge suitcase; also, I'm on a budget so I can't afford taxis!)

Has anyone used the left luggage service and could tell me about it? Specifically, what does it cost? Is it reliable/safe? Is it always open (I think my flight out of Istanbul departs around 9:30pm, so I would be collecting them around 7:30pm)?

Thanks!

Hi mp413,
There is left luggage service at both domestic and internationa terminals. If you will be flying out from ýstanbul, better use the service at int. terminal, lowest level as far as remember and there are signs. Its open 7/24 and I also used this service. They fill a form and smaller pieces are locked. They charge by the piece and the size and they have a per day rate for it.

Happy travelling,
Murat

Thanks Murat that's really helpful! I would really like to know the exact charge, so I can determine whether it would just be cheaper to take a cab/shuttle from the airport to my hotel and back. Anyone know?

Also, what DOES a shuttle from the airport into town cost, anyway? Do they have shared rides that drop you at your destination?

thanks!

We asked our hotel to arrange for a car to meet us at the airport and take us to our hotel in Sultanahment - it was €25 each way. I was being lazy and took the easiest option rather than having to sort out a cab myself and probably save a bit of money.

I used the left luggage service last month. They were open 24/7. The cost for large bags was $14 lira. It was safe and easy.

We used the tram to get out of IST airport, it was simple and cheap. Only $1.40 lira to get near old town then we jumped on another tram to get into old town. Simple and convienent. Coming back to the airport a metered taxi cost us $26 lira from Old Town...during non-commute hours.
