Can You Name theTen Most Popular Tourist Cities In Europe???

http://www.tripit.com/destinations/1...ons-in-europe/

Before looking how many of the Top Ten tourist cities in Europe (according to one poll at least; there are no doubt other versions with varying results) can you name and in what order at the top? Keep in mind that number of tourists means just that - thus a city off our usual top tourist places may sneek in - like a few did for me.

flpab Mar 30th, 2015 11:55 AM

Not looking: Paris, London, Rome, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dublin, Lisbon, Edinburgh, Florence, Vienna.

PalenQ Mar 30th, 2015 11:57 AM

for not looking looking pretty good with 7 correct including the top three though not in the right order (According to this survey!)

tom_mn Mar 30th, 2015 12:03 PM

I doubt that Dublin, Edinburgh, and Lisbon belong on the list.

hetismij2 Mar 30th, 2015 12:03 PM

I would expect Prague to be in the list.

outwest Mar 30th, 2015 12:10 PM

I'd add Venice and Munich.

outwest Mar 30th, 2015 12:11 PM

I just looked and I'm a bit surprised to see Vienna--we liked it but a lot of people seem not to.

hetismij2 Mar 30th, 2015 12:12 PM

Tom_mn, you are forgetting the numbers of Europeans visiting these cities. Just because they aren't high on a North American's wish list doesn't mean they don't get high numbers of visitors.

flpab Mar 30th, 2015 12:16 PM

Yes Tom, not all of us are in bed at seven with a cup of warm milk. We like to party in Dublin. I love Munich but a lot of people don't go there, maybe Prague.

flpab Mar 30th, 2015 12:18 PM

I was also thinking of international cruise ports. Many people fly into Barcelona and Amsterdam for cruises.

Percy Mar 30th, 2015 12:28 PM

I will take one stab at it.

In no particular order.

London
Paris
Rome
Prague
Amsterdam

Vienna
Madrid
Dublin
Barcelona
and

how about Istanbul, this is still Europe

Heck this leaves out all of Germany!

PalenQ Mar 30th, 2015 12:32 PM

Yes no Deutschland - Berlin is was too far out of the loop in remote northwestern Allemagne - Dublin? Again it's European who probably make up the most of these visitors - American visitors would no doubt have Venice and Florence on the list - surprised a place like Nice did not get a nod.

IMDonehere Mar 30th, 2015 12:36 PM

London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Prague, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, and Istanbul.

justineparis Mar 30th, 2015 12:37 PM

London, Paris, Rome, Venice, Florence, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich and Prague.

I have less confidence in my last three choices.

justineparis Mar 30th, 2015 12:39 PM

Hmm only got six.. had considered Dublin then dismissed it.. surprised by Vienna and surprised Venice was not on list.

PalenQ Mar 30th, 2015 12:40 PM

I wonder if transiting an airport like Frankfurt's is considered to be visiting a city?

London and Paris no surprise though I'd have said Paris was first!

tom_mn Mar 30th, 2015 12:44 PM

Well, I've never had a strong desire to visit Dublin, so there's another reason to skip it.

flanneruk Mar 30th, 2015 01:44 PM

" can you name and in what order at the top?"

Name what?

Most visited cities? By everyone, or just foreigners? Is overnighting essential to PalQ's definition? Do they have to be tourists (businesspeople spend more - and matter more)?

And what's heavy visiting - or use - got to do with "popular"? At least twice as many people fly through London's airports every year as the airports of any other European city. Not even their shareholders would claim any of them (except possibly LCY, which scarcely anyone uses) are popular.

PalenQ Mar 30th, 2015 01:50 PM

Hey ole chap - <Is overnighting essential to PalQ's definition?> it is not my criteria and if you read my intro I cast doubts on this being the only such survey - it is what it is - the total number of visitors in each city (not airport I would think unless you consider Heathrow or Gatwick or Stansted or Luton to be a part of London or in London. It is NOT my definition but one of many surveys but seemingly rather right on if you think about it.

And yes it is human beings too I think not creatures like the flannerpooch - so ole chap don't attack the messenger...

Cheers,

Your pal!

I would have thunk Edinburgh would top Dublin in total visitors? But it's not even on the list.
