Can you help to identify this location?

I'm assuming this photo was taken in Europe, on a Swiss lake. It could have been taken any number of places, I suppose, but I want to go there. Here is the article where I found the photo. The picture is the second one, on the second page; the link opens on the second page.

Thanks for the help!

You know I'm not sure, but it looks like Hallstatt, Austria.

I saw Hallstatt on one of Rick Steve's show and it looks very familiar because he look a boat over across the lake.

Or it could be Annecy.

Sue878 Sep 15th, 2010 08:57 AM

ooopp - I meant "took" a boat (I should wear my glasses)

It looks a lot like Hallstatt, Austria to me.

No, not with those mountains. I think you're right about Switzerland. How intriguing.

Yes, it is Hallstatt.

Dayenu Sep 15th, 2010 09:21 AM

The photo reminds me of Norway fjords.

It's an adorable, tiny village! Loved it!

Absolutely, positively, unabashedly, without a doubt, indubitably, certainly, indeed, for sure bra,

IT IS HALLSTATT!

Do a Google image search and type "Hallstatt".

Otzi Sep 15th, 2010 10:45 AM

Now give us a tougher one!

I didn't want to stump anyone, I just want to go there! I saw the photo in a magazine that I was flipping through before I put it in the recycle bin, and it intrigued me.

So what's near Hallstatt? I'm going to google it, but I would like to hear what others have visited nearby.

joannyc Sep 15th, 2010 12:56 PM

Salzburg, St. Gilgen, St. Wolfgang, Bad Ischl are all nearby.

I spent two nights in Hallstatt between stays in Graz and St. Wolfgang. Stopped for lunch in Bad Ischl and visited the Kaiservilla. Daytrip to St. Gilgen before moving onto Salzburg and Innsbruck.

Try http://maps.google.com and type in Hallstat, Austria... zoom in a bit... now drag the yellow icon of a person onto the map. There's no Streetview available but you'll see all kinds of
blue squares... drag the icon onto one of them and you'll see dozens of pictures from all sorts of angles...

ParisAmsterdam, yes, I did mention I was going to use Google. Looked a lots of photos, but I am interested in nearby places that folks here have visited and enjoyed. I would perhaps like to begin putting together a trip to Austria.

joannyc, thanks for the tips. We have not been to Austria, and until today, it wasn't high on my list of places to visit.
