Can you buy a carte orange at Ecole Militiare Metro Station?
 

My sister and niece will be in Paris and staying near the Ecole Militiare metro station. Last year we bought our carte orange passes at Pont Alma so she is wondering if she has to go to Pont Alma to purchase a carte orange or if she can get one at Ecole Militiare. If she can't buy one at Ecole Militiare metro station, where is the closest place to there she can get one. Thanks.

I'd be surprised if they didn't sell the pass at Ecole Militaire Station but cannot tell for sure. Perhaps, somebody else can?

You can buy the Carte Orange at any Metro or RER station.

You may want to reference the discussion from last Friday about Carte Orange technically apparently only being available to Ile de France residents - some folks reported trouble buying one but were successful by going to other windows - point is don't take no for an answer!

We bought ours there in 2000.

Be sure to take your Carte Orange ticket holder with you, the one with your picture on it. Or get a new one and take a very small picture of yourself to put in the holder.

We have never had difficulty purchasing a Carte Orange, but I suppose there's always a first time. Just in case, I will print up the page that Robespierre suggested from the Paris Convention and Visitor's Bureau. We already have the little plastic folders, with our photos from the first year, so maybe that's why we haven't had difficulty. We purchased them at the Musee D'Orsay RER/Metro station, where I passed them a note in French asking for two Carte Orange passes and 4 Mobilis passes. That made things much easier. I also paid by credit card. Better than dealing with cash first thing :-)

I bought one in March at Ecole Militaire. Try and take your own photo, otherwise there is a photo booth near the ticket office (two windows) where you can get 4 for $4.00.

Perhaps I'll have to start a new thread but, if they want to go to Versailles, can they buy their ticket to go to Versailles at Ecole Militiare, catch the metro and change to the RER at Invaldies or do they have to catch the metro using their carte orange and then go up out of the metro and buy a ticket for the RER?

A ticket from Paris to Versailles (which you can buy at École Militaire) costs 2,70€.
From Issy to Versailles is 1,45€.

If you think the saving is worth the effort, ride to Issy on your CO, get off and buy a round-trip to Versailles Rive Gauche, and get back on. On the return trip you can ride straight through - no need to stop.

Robespierre's plan is more than complicate : it would mean for you to take the metro to Corentin Celton (in Issy), walk or take the bus (but you would need a ticket in this case - Issy is not covered by a 1-2 CO) to the RER station, and there buy a train ticket

Thanks so much Robespierre, but we are trying to keep it simple simple simple. Hey, do you know where I can find out which stations will be closed in Paris for her? Last summer the RER was closed between Invaldies and the Orsay (approximately). Thanks again.

PS My niece is 15. Is there a student carte orange or should she just go with the adult carte orange?

If you go to transilien.com, hit <i>prix billets par trajet</i> and fill in &quot;invalides&quot; and &quot;issy&quot; you will see that the first is in zone 1 and the second in zone 2.

If you enter &quot;issy&quot; and &quot;versailles r g&quot; the first is in zone 2 and the second in zone 4.

Corentin Celton is on M&eacute;tro Ligne 12, one stop from Mairie d'Issy. It's nowhere near the Issy on RER C.

For under-26 year olds, there is a pass called <i>Ticket Jeunes</i> which is valid on a weekend day or holiday.

The is no specific carte orange for students (except for the yearly or week end passes)

Actually, Robespierre's suggestion on how to save a few euros is not as complicated as norween makes it out to be. The Issy station to which he refers is on the RER C line and is the last station in zone 2. It is NOT the Corentin Celton Metro station on line 14.

There is no student Carte Orange. Your niece will have to pay the adult rate.

Both RER stations in Issy (Issy val de Seine and Issy) are in zone 3 - if you have a zone 1-2 ticket, you won't be able to exit the station and to reach the ticket booth (your ticket won't open the zone 3 turnstyle)
A i know 1st hand : I work in Issy (2 minutes by foot from the RER Issy Val de Seine, and believe me : i need a zone 3 pass to enter and exit the station)

Fuhget aboutit, it's only a euro. Do it the easy way.

It's 1.25&euro; per person each way. For me, that's 12.50&euro; - easily worth the two minute investment in time.

Robespierre, if you are able to reach one of the Issy's RER stations from one of Issy's metro stations by foot in 2 minutes or less, don't forget to apply for the next olympic games ! ;-)

norween - I don't want to beat a dead horse and I especially do not want to argue to argue with someone who lives in Issy and who knows firsthand that you need a zone 3 ticket. But the map at ratp.fr shows both Issy RER stations as being in zone 2. Why is that?

I haven't read all the replies, especially those at the end relating to Versailles.

However, we were just in Paris last month. We purchased the Carte Orange at the Ecole Militaire station (we brought along our photos instead of trying to find a photo booth).

Going to Versailles, I have done it two ways. I either purchase the RER tickets at the Ecole Militaire station (if there's no line) and transfer at Invalides or I go directly to Invalides and use the machine at the RER entrance to purchase the tickets.

The only rudeness we encountered during our month in Paris was when we took our existing Carte Orange to the woman at the Ecole Militaire Metro and asked for tickets for the following week. She refused to sell to us, and had done so to the American couple in front of us. Then, fortunately, we saw the machine which dispensed the tickets. But if you are buying your initial Carte Orange, go to the Bir-Hakim metro, where they do a lot of business, and we were treated very well indeed.
