Can you add a city to balance our trip?

Looking for input as to what might balance our trip. We will have visited Paris (including Versailles), Metz, Strasbourg, Bern, Lauterbrunnen area, Salzburg... now what to add to that with ultimately flying out of Frankfurt home.

Looking for a couple of stops to balance out the itinerary... maybe Cesky Krumov, then Munich and Frankfurt. Or Budapest?

I'm thinking we will have seen enough cathedrals and museums by this point, so really looking for the feel/experience of the destination. Only travelling by train/shuttle so that is the only limitation.

It's a vague question, but thought someone might have some incite from experience.

Thanks!

Well we loved Budapest - loved the baths, lots of art deco buildings (some a bit shabby), maybe spend a bit of time on the river esp. at night. Not sure CK is much of a city and in general I am not a fan of Germany.

I would go to Prague!

Prague is a fantastic city and it is pretty small, so it's easy to walk around.

It is beautiful! Especially at night.

The food is wonderful! The beer is some of the best! Everybody seemed to speak English.

Not sure of the train situation from Salzburg to Prague, Prague to Frankfurt, but I am sure it is easily "doable."

Enjoy!

Between Salzburg and Frankfurt, make the Black Forest region your last stop for a few nights. Peaceful hikes, lakes, gondolas up the Feldberg mountain - a nice way to decompress from your all-over-the-map trip up to that point.

Between Salzburg and Frankfurt I would not pick either Munich or Frankfurt if you're looking for "feel", which I assume to mean "ambience", roughly.

So I will suggest the Alpine town of Berchtesgaden for a stop of 2 nights.

After that, 3 nights in Würzburg on the Main River at the northern end of the Romantic Road (1.5 hrs. from FRA airport by direct train.)

To follow up, we are traveling early June.

Munich would be for train connections to get up to Frankfurt only and we are flying out of Frankfurt airport home.

Studying all the train maps and connections brings reality into my plans! I must consider the ability to swing back to Frankfurt the day before our flight.

I'll look into the above suggestions tonight.

How about the Rhine Gorge - between Bingen and Boppard -cute riverside towns and the sweet K-D.com boat ride:

www.k-d.com.

For lots on trains and where to go by train -www.ricksteves.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.seat61.com

You may want to investigate the Eurail Select Saverpass or for Switzerland a Swiss Pass - even a few days there could warrant one- valid in full to Lauterbrunnen and above to Murren and Wengen.
