Can we leave our luggage at Heathrow?
 

We will be arriving at 9PM from Athens - we would like to leave all our luggage except a back pack in a safe place at the airport --- and then take the train to the Amsterdam Hotel at Earls Court -

1.Where would I find the storage area at the airport?
2. Where is the train to Earls Court ?

HI crp- I have not used them myself, but a friend referred me to this link. As far as I know, there haven't been lockers at Heathrow for a while!

You can take the Heathrow express into central London and then connect to the closest tube station to your hotel.

It's cheaper (and doesn't involve changing trains) to take the tube from Heathrow direct to Earl's Court.

I'm assuming that we will be arriving at Terminal 4 --- where are the trains from there ?

The Piccadily Line tube - NOT THE TRAIN - goes straight from T4 to Earl's Court tue station, about 100 yds from your hotel

The Heathrow Express train is, in practice, a great deal more expensive, time-consuming and messy for your destination. Unlike the tube, the fare on it can't be combined with TfL travel cards.

The link about left luggage an earlier poster provided is very old. Last time I checked, bags are £6 per day per bag to store. "Day" means 24 hours or any portion thereof. Check two bags in at 2100 and collect them at 2101 the following day and it'll cost you £24.

You might find it easier to take your bags on the tube to the hotel.

Flanneruk - good point - there will be 2 women and 1 man -- with a total of 10 bags 2 are very large. Do you think we can handle all of that on the Tube ???

But at £60+ per day, I wouldn't leave them all there.

I'm assuming (well hoping) that some of your bags are small. If so buy a large lightweight duffle bag and stuff the small bags in them to reduce the total cost

Note that there may be a maximum weight per bag (either 23 or 32kg) but that also applies to the airline you are flying with

We are all set --- but now I need some suggestion for lunch and supper --
good food and not too costly - please !
We will be using the HOHO bus - so we can eat anywhere - the bus goes!

My idea also works if you have 2 small carry on bags for folk flying from UK (and soon to be EU) airports where only one carry on bag is allowed - all it has to do is fit the frame (government regulations) and the weight (airline rules)

Assuming typical US travellers that's 2 suitcases per person plus 2 carry on bags.

Here's the breakdown - I have 4 bags,
my sister has 5 bags and my husband has 1 bag and 1/3 of his bag holds my shoes !

I think your husband is a martyr (or insane) - not just one overloaded woman, but two.

Lord NO- there is no way you are going to be able to get all of that luggage on a train. 10 bags, 2 of them large. Between the 3 of you, you only have 6 arms. Could you even manage 6 of those bags? I *used* to travel with everything including the kitchen sink, until Air France clued me in to the excess bag rule- to the sum of $800. You learn how to leave things at home after that! It sounds like you are going to be miserable. Can you scale down the packing any?

she weighs 115 lbs --- now are you ready for this - my husband is 6'4&quot;
and weighs 230 lbs --- !!!!

But --- I agree with everything you all said --- we (the girls) will take ONLY 2 bags each and my sweet husband can have his entire bag for himself !

Even my GF only takes one bag - which weighs less than 23kg - on holiday.

The allowance the airline gives you isn't compulsory, you are allowed to take less than the limit

crp- this is what I tell my teachers and students when they go on tour- pack what you think you will need. THEN take a walk around the block- with your luggage in tow. Make sure you walk through the park, up and down the steps, up and down inclines. A good half hour should do the trick. THEN decide whether or not you need all that you have packed. If I can't stand to drag it behind me for an hour or so, I don't need to be bringing it with me.
