I just want to add that a day trip to Zermatt is often a great idea if the weather is poor in the Berner Oberland. The weather changes dramatically once you go south. I have done several day trips with visiting guests to Zermatt from where I used to live just outside Luzern. With an early start it can be done and was always enjoyable. Bottom line-check the weather before you go.
