Can someone help me get from Rome's FCO to my Rome Hotel using public transportation?
 

Hello all,

My wife and I are going to Rome on Thursday for our 20th anniversary. We have never been to Italy, but we do travel a lot. One of the things that we do to be able to travel more often, is to take public transporation whenever possible. For instance, we have been to London several times, and always take the Gatwick Express to Victoria, and then either the tube or a taxi from there.

I know that there is a train station right in FCO, but I can't figure out whether this will be easy or not. I know costs about 10 Euro compared with approximately 50 Euro for a taxi (from FCO to the city), so we'd like to figure this out, unless it's overly complicated.

Our details are as follows:

We arrive in Rome on Friday, August 4th @ 10:20 a.m. We have to clear customs and immigration first, so I figure it will be between 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. before we are ready to leave the airport.

Neither my wife nor I speak Italian, although, we do know some basic phrases and have a phrase/dictionary book, if that matters.

Does anyone know where this hotel is, and whether it is simple to get from FCO to the hotel? Thanks for any help!

Good question---the answer is to book a shuttle direct to the hotel for about 36E. We like www.airportshuttle.it but there are several good ones. Good luck !

You are better off taking a shuttle.Your hotel is way out and is not centrally located.

We've done the train and then taxi to the hotel thing, and have even done then train then bus. But this last time we used romeshuttle: http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com/
They do a fixed rate at 35 euro. Compared to our two train tickets to Termini then a taxi to the historic center, it was about the same price and a whole lot easier!

I suspect the shuttle might be your easiest option.

I am not trying to discourage you but you might want to look at the reviews of this hotel on www.tripadvisor.com. Several of them make specific remarks about this particular hotel's location.

Well, Dukey did it for me. I had written a long note, urging you to try and change hotels for one closer to Rome, but then I felt so sorry for you, that I erased it.

But since you have so little time, if you decide to change hotels, I am offering to help you.

My wife and I were lucky enough to have a hotel that was located quite close to Termini so we just took the train from FCO to Termini and we just walked to our hotel. Wow! Thanks for all of the responses. You guys have got Italy questions covered! It looks like we'll be taking a shuttle from FCO to this hotel.

Also, I am aware that this hotel is not centrally-located. Unfortunately, we'll be leaving for a tour of Florence and Venice from this hotel on Saturday, so we are just going to have to make the best of that situation! :)

Yes, it was 35 for the shuttle total. Incidentally, I happened to have a 20, a 10, and a 5 and handed them to the driver when we arrived at our destination. Embarrassed, I then realized I only had some 50 euro notes and no change. I asked him if he could change a 50 instead, and he smiled and said, "no, no tip is needed". Wow. Picture that in New York!
