I must be missing something here. If I tell you now that I am "Marilyn," then I post in 5 minutes and tell you that I am not the "original" Marilyn but a different Marilyn, using the same screen name, what makes you believe me rather than think I am just lying? Why do we think there are 2 people with the same screen name at all, rather than just one person who is seriously yanking our chains?
|
I don't believe you really are the Real Marilyn. In fact, I think someone should have lunch with you tomorrow and see some ID :D
|
And bring that handsome, interesting husband of yours :)
|
4totravel,
Are one or both of you suggesting that Fodors' database contains a violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint? |
LOL, I am indeed having lunch tomorrow with a fodorite, but the handsome, interesting Phil Flash will not be accompanying me. (However, he is thrilled with the compliment, cigale!)
4totravel, do both of you inhabit the same body, by any chance? |
"4totravel, do both of you inhabit the same body, by any chance?"....
Maybe only on Odd or Even days and this is an Odd day :) |
"4totravel, do both of you inhabit the same body, by any chance?"
Or do you use the same computer? Could be one 4totravel might have a REALLY bratty friend/spouse/child . . . . . . . |
When you post a reply, your screen name is shown in a font which includes serifs (like Courier or Times Roman) - - the same is true for the body of the text, during entry of the text (also during "preview my reply")...
...and "I" (capital "i") does not ressemble (exactly) "l" (lower case "L")... ...thus "4totravel" - - the imposter - - knows exactly what is going on... ...and everyone with an "l" (lower case "L") is at risk of this kind of impersonation. Fodors needs to make the default font one that conatins serifs, so that "I" (upper case "i") can be distinguished from "l" (lower case "L") for all body text in posts (not just during entry or preview). |
Scarlett, it does always seem like an
*odd* day around this board! I think that someone must have watched Cybil (sp) over the weekend. If not the split personality, then it is someone signing in on the same computer. Boy, you guys better hope my husband never does that to me. Maybe I better hope he doesn't, he would probably get me kicked off! :) |
Hey, maybe it's travdis' alter egos.
I might get my self into trouble. Never mind my husband. |
LOL, dsm..
an old 4totravel thread about Speel Chacking has been topped btw. Sybil? there are so many of them these days~sigh~ :) |
I just looked at that thread too, we were all on the same wave length there.
Gotta wonder. |
dsm, and I have CRS also :O !! LOL
|
My dear 4totravel -- clicking on any post by either of your severely split personas yields the same list of posts -- hence there is only one of you physically -- mentally is not quite so clear. Basically you are full of it.
|
Scarlett, CRS was going to be my next thought, as well! This is too funny!
|
So 4totravel is really Janus.
|
Cigalchanta, I am so tierd and loopy, that I read that twice, and it took 15 or 20 minutes for me to "get" it.
That was funny. |
You are all im'post'ers. I am the only one who is real. Hahahaha.
Every day in every way I get a little better...... |
Rex is correct. I just experimented, and what I found was exactly as Rex described. I promptly deleted the new ID after going through the motions and seeing how this could be done.
If one designated person would like to try it to demonstrate, you can register two personas just for demonstration purposes, for example, "Lol" (but type it in all lower case) and "ioi" (but type the first and last letters as capitals). The ID "cigalechanta," for example, is vulnerable to this kind of copying by substituting a capital i for the lower case L, and maybe this is what happened in that situation where you said someone on AOL was using your ID.. |
Hi, cmt, I don't know as I dont have AOL. I was emailed about the posts.
Why would anyone want to be other than who they are? |
P.S. I deleted the experiment within about two minutes of creating the ID, becaue I felt like I was doing something wrong. so obviously I never posted with it and never saw the way a post might be treated by the search function. If someone does make up a pair of IDs as I suggested above, it might be good to try posting with both of them, and then we can see whether clicking on one will bring up the posts under the other, i.e., whether even Fodors system doesn't recognize the differeence between IDs that are visually the same.
|
But... all the posts claiming to be two different "personas" both are using the same "4totravel" (last letter being a lower case "L").
Thus, nutzoid behavior remins a viable hypothesis. The assertion remains unchanged - - that Fodors should change the body text (default font) so that serifs are displayed. |
Oh, I thought you meant you were both on AOL. I guess it's possible that someone else just made up the same name as yours--not extremely likely, but possible.
Can't answer your question. I can see the appeal of a having a variety of IDs for playful purposes, but impersonating someone else is definitely not my thing. |
<<...we can see whether clicking on one will bring up the posts under the other, i.e., whether even Fodors system doesn't recognize the differeence between IDs that are visually the same...>>
This seems inconceivable. Computers are not fooled by two letters that just happen to look alike in a sans serif font. There must be another explanation we have not uncovered yet. The "I" (upper case "i") vs. "l" (lower case "L") problem may be just a "by-product" discovery (if it can be called a "discovery"). |
Right. Because when I just clicked on the OP's name, it turned up the same list of threads as the second poster's name (who said she was a different person). If the last letter was different in the two names (although looking the same) it would presumably turn up a different set of posts for a different registration name.
Oh, who cares. |
Oh my - It is I - the original poster who did not have a chance to check Fodors all day yesterday - what an interesting thread! I guess this has not happened to anyone else?
I just checked my email this morning and the Fodors editors have given me a new password with my original screen name. Thank you! Both 4totravel names were spelled exactly the same - no upper or lower case letter examples (that I could see). We are not the same person (at least I don't think so). I didn't mean to stir up such a flury! Someone called 4totravel a jerk - maybe they were talking about the other one - or I may have to cahnge my name now. Best day to all! |
Well, I hope the editors will post here and explain it all!!!!
