Can one pay a Euro-acceptgiro electronically from a US bank account?

...and if so, how?

I owe a small annual subscription fee to the Dutch Vrienden op de Fiets organization, and have no idea how to proceed with payment. They don't accept cash, otherwise I'd just sling a ten euro note into the mail.

Is this possible, and if so is anyone familiar with the procedure?

Hi RS,

IME, it has been necessary to go to my local bank and have them wire the amount in Euro to a specific routing number/account number.

The charge for the international wire transfer is about $30.

You might ask the recipient if you could send them a check for $25 to cover their cost of converting from USD to Euro.

They won't take a credit card or debit card?

If not, ask your bank for an international draft in euros. It's essentially a cashier's check and should cost you about $5-$10. Mail it.

You can do an international bank transfer to their account: Bank: NL90 INGB 0001 5388 57
BIC: INGBNL2A

Alternatively if you want to you can e-mail me at hetismijnl at gmail.com.

You can send me the cash and the acceptgiro and I'll pay it - as long as it doesn't mean I get the bill next year too!

Hetismij2, I believe that I'll take you up on your kind offer. Look for my email. VodF does not auto-renew, consequently you shouldn't be troubled next year.

To make a bank transfer makes sense, but $30 USD to pay a 10 euro bill? Sheesh!

Last year, I gave the autogiro and the cash to one of my early VodF hosts, who paid the bill for me. Our next planned trip to the Netherlands isn't until June of this year, though - that's a bit far out, and I hate to leave an obligation unpaid for that long.

I use http://www.xe.com/xetrade/ which simply charges a percentage above the daily exchange rate.

As it turns out, though it's mentioned nowhere on the acceptgiro or on their website, the Vrienden op de Fiets organization DOES in fact accept PayPal. I dunno why that option is given such a low profile - perhaps they dislike the fees, or have had the same unpleasant experiences I've had with those pirates at PP.

Thanks, all, for your suggestions, and special appreciation to hetismij2 for her most kind offer to help.
