Thanks for the helpful tips. I always do call my bank before leaving and I also ask them to increase the amount allowed to be withdrawn each day--just in case!

I feel much more relaxed about money matters now; it seemed beyond belief that ATMs would not be functioning.

Greg,

I was planning on using the atm in FRA to get euros while I waited for my flight to Verona. I am flying Lufthansa from SFO is the atm in the "secure" zone or will I need to exit and reenter?

Thanks,

Greg, I answered my question by researching the FRA airport site. The map indicates several atms within the secure zone.

Actually most currency changes do take place over a weekend and with no notice. However right now tension is down so ATM is the right solution.

I was in Italy 2 weeks ago.had no problem with ATM anywhere, even the smallest villages.Do not carry a lot of cash.I took some Euros with me to buy the tickets for the bus and water taxi in Venice because i knew I would be tired and didnt want to have to deal with an ATM at the airport, but you can most certainly get cash there.
