can I stay in Killarney to see Dingle or Should I stay in DIngle

What I need to know is this, Can I see Dingle by being based in Killarney or should I actually stay in Dingle.? I have 11 days to tour the s west all the way up to Dublin and was originally staying 2 days in Dingle and 3 in Killarney but now I was thinking I might be using up 5 days when I don't have to. So should I stay in DIngle or can I see Dingle on day trips?

I recall Dingle as quite a bit out of the way, and personally stayed there a couple of nights, preferring it to Killarney, but then I was traveling by public trans. Someone else might have a better idea.

You can see Dingle on day trips IF you have a car, IMO. More pleasant to stay there, I think, although 5 days in that area seems a lot if you have only 11 for the whole trip.

Thanks your opinion helps, I was torn between kenmare and Killarney and more people favor Kenmare but I thought Killarney was more on my path, I will be there in Oct so maybe not as touristy and I will get to Kenmare 1 day for sure anyway. I think I still am leaning towards staying in Dingle and Killarney. Thanks again

We stayed in Dingle www.greenmount-house.com and Kenmare www.shelburnelodge.com and really enjoyed both.

What we didn't enjoy was the drive on the ROK between Killarney and Kenmare----worst of our 2 trips to Ireland. Now you can drive the inland road between Killarney and Kenmare, which we also did. Much safer, but it takes a bit longer.

IMO, the Dingle peninsula was the highlight of 2 trips, however I don't know how it will be weather wise in Oct. Also, Mulcahy's in Kenmare was the best dinner of 2 trips. We were there in Sept. 2010 and the weather was lovely.

Good luck!

We did 3 nights (but just 2 days) in Killarney and 2 days/nights in Dingle. I wouldn't want to day trip from Killarney, but that's just me. (We also did 3 nights in the Galway/Salthill area).

One benefit of allotting more than 1 day is that you increase your chances of having acceptable weather if you are doing outdoor activities.

Definately stay in Dingle... Killarney is so touristy, as we drove through it I kept thinking I was glad we weren't staying there. We stayed in Kenmare for three nights to explore the ROK and Dingle for two nights. But, if I had to choose one place I would choose Dingle hands down. If you can do both then that's great, but Killarney really isn't a great base for Dingle, you need to stay in the town to have the full experience, in my opinion.
